In my head, the song matches up with the way Bleddyn and Nina's relationship always (secretly) was and how it, eventually came to fall apart. Nina never actually loved Bleddyn, she she just went with the flow and used his mental health to her advantage (ie: abusing him, gaslighting him, etc.). While Blaidd is bending over backward to make the marriage work, Nina goes off on a misadventure with Jonah under the guise of 'not wanting to disappear' as a person who was 'trapped' in a marriage she initially pushed for in the first place. Bleddyn, meanwhile, feels like he's never seen or heard - like he's disappeared under the surface to try and please Nina in every conceivable way he can think of. They both end up with wanting to escape the toxic marriage in one way or another - and Nina does by having the affair with Jonah, leaving Bleddyn mentally blindsided.
