Mmh maybe some people find nasal vowels exotic >u> It's the same with Italian gestures, it always gives me homicidal thoughts when "Italians" in US TV shows make absolutely nonsensical hand gestures just because "Italians talk with their hands".

Aside from the occasional Québécois actor, I've noticed that Italians and French are often used interchangeably. I still have nightmares about the time N.C.I.S. hired an Italian-American to play a French arms dealer with the most terrible accent ever, and known as “The Frog” (“La Grenouille”, technically /la.ɡʁǝ.nuj/ but that everyone called “la gruh-noo-ee” since no one was gonna hear the difference anyway) and who would call his own daughter Jeanne “Jean” because... well, general incompetence?
