Random essay on early access and event-themed CC
Hi. This is a very random before-sleep thought but I need to share it. I have genuinely been wondering for forever why people release event-themed CC for public after the actual event. I know the short answer is « money », but if thatâs true⊠are they really that bad at marketing?
And then I realize⊠yes, they are. They do not understand how things work. Think about it. How often do you see a creatorâs « April CC collection » with a public release date on May 2th? Like, if a creator who does that sees this⊠sorry to tell you but for the vast majority of people thatâs your May collection. And if the collection is Easter themed (this is an hypothetical, I havenât seen anyone do Easter CC this year), very few of us need Easter CC in May. Of course it will trigger some peopleâs FOMO and theyâll want to get it ASAP so they can make their edits⊠but it also makes you look bad to non-paying people, aka potential customers.
Meanwhile⊠if you put that April Easter-themed collection up for early access in March, with a release date 1-2 days before Easter, the people who can afford to pay will still do it, cause 1-2 days is a short time to plan out a lookbook or edit, AND the people who donât pay (which are the majority) will still have a little bit of time to put something together, and you will be getting exposure from the increased public use of your stuff. It will also make you look good, which matters more than some seem to believe.
Anyways, I donât see how this isnât obvious? Trying to be capitalists is making a lot of these people earn less than they could.
I still am 100% against early access by the way. Itâs just, if you are gonna do it⊠at least do it well?
