MUSIC FROM THE TWILIGHT ZONE...SONG OF THE WEEK—“Halfway to Dakota”: It’s night. Your heart is the engine while your car headlights pierce jagged dark horizons. You're driving relentlessly through mesas and boundless skies. This is my Twilight Zone-esque Leiber & Stoller-ish "pocket opera" about a man traveling over the great Western open spaces to get back home. In my mind, I’m looking down from the sky on this night driver. On a cosmic jukebox it would play next to Roy Orbison, Chris Isaak, and some tango singers. My friend and ace musician, Dan Rielly, called this recording “cinematic,” and that’s the sonic scope I was aiming for. The track was expertly recorded at Tape Vault Studios in San Francisco, with Chris von Sneidern in charge as producer & guitarist, along with guitarist Paul Robins and drummer Prairie Prince (Tubes, Todd Rundgren, XTC).
