Repost from @mybeautifulafrica__ So many people dread this kind of post... but awareness is a good thing. For far too long Western entities have felt entitled to Africa’s resources & wealth while they try to convince you that Africa is poor & needs #whitesaviorism to survive. The truth is that big companies like #debeers #apple #microsoft #tesla and #nestle depend on the violence & exploitation that plague DRC Congo in order to plunder their natural resources for their wealth. The truth is that rape & child labor are tyrannical and patriarchal characteristics imposed on Africa by Colonial rule. The truth is the violent system of policing we see in Nigeria 🇳🇬 Kenya 🇰🇪 and in the U.S. originates from Great Britain.
So many other issues I did not mention in Namibia, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Sudan & Guinea but....
2020 is ushering in major shifts. One of them is that Africa is decolonizing. The awareness around DRC and #endsars is people finally standing up and demanding humanity. Let us not be so uncomfortable with the pain of the #motherland that we fail to support her desire to heal. #supportafrica
*Shout our to Nigerian artist Tiwa Savage for calling Beyonce & Black is King out. If Beyoncé can use the imagery and music of Africa to make a profit for herself & Disney.... then she can highlight at least one Country within the continent that is struggling right now. Let’s not do to the continent what white supremacy does to us.
