A tale of two fences:
We’ve only just begun the tenure of new UC Berkeley Chancellor (and this blog’s bff) Carol Christ, and already we can see a disturbing continuation of the rhetoric and policy of her immediate predecessor, Nick Dirks, a man not exactly renowned for his leadership. From warmly welcoming the extreme right to campus, to insisting on austerity-based cuts to education while wasting money on corporatization and managerial bloat, to erecting expensive physical barriers in pathetically transparent attempts to silence community dissent, it all really feels like déja vu all over again. Christ, Carol! A little originality, please?
