I really like how Noritoshi's mother has been handled. Her moving on is very realistic.
For one, she's a grown woman. She can't put her whole future in her child's hands, she needs to make her own decisions and move on. She can't be dependent on her son. Also, the Kamo Clan can never be a place for her. Even if Noritoshi becomes Clan head, the conservative ideals are too ingrained in the clan to just be overturned by one person in charge. Their power among the higher-ups depends on their old traditions. The people perpetuating that system would have to change too or anything Noritoshi accomplishes could just be overturned by his successor. Not to mention that it would just create an atmosphere of tension around his mother no matter what he does.
It is better for her to make her "own" family that she is happy with and where she doesn't have to toe around old men that treat her like property. She might even expect Noritoshi to join her one day. He comes into her family and not her into his (the Kamo Clan). Although it is understandably hard for him to see his mother being happy with another child and in a way exactly because he isn't there. I hope they actually get to talk one day.
On a side note, I started commenting on AO3 fics (I always left kudos, but never commented because I don't know how to interact), and when authors reply to my comments it brings me to life (hope my comments bring them life)
