Mostly douchebags. Extremely powerful - most powerful thing out there that I know of, except for maybe Illyria? Not sure. Don't want either of us in a situation where we need to find out. Generally stronger than Samael, but with the Scythe, he puts them down. All of them seem to have just as big of a superiority complex as demons.
When they die, there are imprints of their wings burned into the ground they fell on. When they're cut open, light shines from underneath - I think Samael mentioned once that was called "Grace."
There's one named Hadrian that beat up Nick, for the whole Samael thing. Landed the kid in the hospital. Freakin' hate douchebags. Apparently he later saved him, but judging from angels' typical attitudes, my best bet is he did it to keep him for bait. As long as Nick is around, he's a loose end Samael will want to tie up, so Hadrian can take another shot at him.
There's also one called Valoel. She's the only one out of all the angels I've seen through Samael who cares for human life. She saved me, though I'm still a vampire. Not sure whether that's because she couldn't make me human again or I just didn't deserve it, but either way, when asked, she fixed me.
And then there's Lucifer. Archangel. Yeah, the Devil. Father of demons, ruler of Hell, etc. Samael, Lilith and Jezebel were planning his assassination - apparently as soon as Satan's done with us humans, the demons are next. Now that I'm dispossessed and Samael hasn't been around to taunt I'm not sure where that's headed.
Other than that, I don't have much to add here yet. There's a ton of mythology to go through, and next to no field experience. I could try contacting Valoel, but something tells me she doesn't want to hear from me again.
These are the especially ugly ones, though they're the neatest to clean up. Technically a sub species of demon, and I've yet to meet one that's retained it's humanity, though I've heard of one called Angel.
When they vamp out, their faces become distorted into some ghoulish Hallown mask type of thing. Eyes become yellow, the fangs come out - they have more fangs than Daevas, Ugentas or Solemus.
Easiest way to kill an Animinus is staking, but sunlight and decapitation works too. These are the easiest to clean up - like Ugentas, they combust, but they turn into dust, not a pile of blood and guts. Buffy described it as "dusting" them before instead of staking and it's an easy phrase to adapt.
While hunting I almost never have to wait long before an Animinus reveals it's intentions, and like mentioned before, I've yet to meet one that I felt didn't deserve a stake in the heart.

Post-blackout, Alaric comes this close to trying to solve something that's been bothering him since his return. In the end, he decides it's about time he stopped searching for answers he doesn't want. Still, the Primordial God King's absence has left an unexpected hole. One shot under the cut.
He shouldn't be here.
Really shouldn't be here.
But ever since his transformation, Ric couldn't help but ask that same question - why? Why hadn't he heard from Illyria, not once, not since the night she saved Elena and himself from Samael? He felt like he sort've knew the answer in his gut already, just didn't want to face it. He'd failed her, in a nutshell. Alaric had failed her and he hadn't even gone on any missions for her. He'd just proven ahead of time that he was a cruddy soldier, right? Couldn't even protect his own, not even from himself. It would be a waste of her time to bother catching up with him again. So, he really, definitely shouldn't be here. Illyria wasn't some douchebag like Damon he could defend himself against, after all. If she decided to be especially angry, he could die. Y'know, they'd sworn to look out for each other, basically, but, uh... he'd kind've not done so much looking out for her and if they'd gone on radio silence, he didn't have much choice but to assume the deal was off.
And Illyria was a lonely pers- ... well, a lonely, merciless, Primordial God-King. Alaric had just been so wrapped up in his own issues these past few weeks. And then with the black out - he couldn't blame her, not for a second, for keeping her distance and considering him a disappointment.
He paused, about fifty feet away from the warehouse Illyria had taken up residence in. He felt the hard edges of the crystal she'd entrusted him with on his fingertips, in his pocket. He hadn't expected to feel guilty for pushing someone like her away, but he did. Probably another perk of having heightened everything, now that he was a vampire. He wondered if their connection-thing even existed anymore. He knew either way, it definitely didn't matter anymore, that he was her Qua'ha... ... whatever it'd been called. Not like he had any books on Illyria to look it up in (he remembered with a pang his demonology index she'd given him, after the Samael incident.) Alaric squinted slightly as he looked at the warehouse, then back to his crappy car, shifting uncomfortably.
No. He shouldn't be here. He couldn't risk a pissy blue Smurf going goddess on his ass, vampire or not. He wouldn't live through it, and Alaric had the distinct impression that the second Illyria wanted him around, she'd let him know. Best not to bug her...
With a tiny sigh, Ric's brows furrowed as he scrutinized the place just a moment longer, recalling the ancient artifacts, the blue hues. The afternoons he'd spent organizing her things. Or, Winifred Burkle's things. Illyria had been a constant for awhile there, and after he got used to having her around, he'd started sort've liking having her around. She'd always said and asked the strangest things, and Alaric could appreciate a curious mind, and found her stories interesting, if not gruesome.
Just... another aspect of his old life he'd managed to screw up royally, he supposed. He could deal with it. It just sucked, that he didn't have Illyria in his corner anymore, too - they'd been getting to know each other, if you could use terms like that where it concerned her. It'd been some kind've start, and it wasn't like Ric had seriously minded having her around at all. It was sort've funny, seeing her and Jack in the same living room, and he'd probably always look back on the night he woke up to Illyria beating the hell out of Damon with a smirk of some sorts. Granted, the rest of that night hadn't been memorable in any good way, but Illyria had delivered one hell of an ass kicking to that jackass of a pal of his and that'd been a little funny (damage to the living room aside.)
He remembered with a grim look on his face their first meeting, in the cemetery. Maybe it was because of his initial anger that he never exactly quivered in his boots when she was around, or maybe he was just some stupid stuck-up hunter. 'Course... he'd always been cautious... like he'd have to be now.
He turned, then, the crystal in his fist as he went. Maybe sometime she'd, uh... come looking for it. Or something. Maybe then he could explain what'd happened, and things'd be okay between them again. He regretted this - this... distance? Not having Illyria around had definitely left some kind of unexpected hole. He'd learned a ton from her, grown to respect her. Hell, enjoyed her company. He wondered had he not failed her like this, what she'd think of the situation. Ric was always curious about her opinion, and now that she was gone, he was realizing quickly how much he'd miss her. Which in itself was surprising and definitely weird, but, there it was.
Alaric drove away back to his home with a heavy feeling on his chest. Nah, she probably wouldn't come looking for the crystal. Still, he figured not bugging her was better than risking anything. Time, he supposed, would tell. He just had a bad feeling about this... they always said it was those silent goodbyes that were the worst. Ric figured this'd be one hell of a learning experience.
Hah. Always the teacher, Illyria was.
The thought made him smile as he pulled in his driveway, but it wasn't a happy one.
Alaric is packing his shit and leaving NYC and that is that.Â
If he comes back, it'll be after a long while, and he will not be the same person.
Consider the lesson learned: people die all the time, and just because there are only two people on the face of the planet that are keeping you alive and functional, does not exempt them from the danger and there is nothing you can do about it.Â
If caring only ends up like this, time and time again... Ric will either undergo a totally different outlook on everything resulting in minimizing his humanity and ability to care, or just plan on cutting his undead life a little short, seeing as he never wanted to be a vampire and live forever anyway. If he can't numb himself to this, then he won't be able to handle it, not after everything. It'll be too much.
"I met a killer ssmurf while visiting her grave," he stated bluntly, slurring only a little. Alaric was fairly intoxicated but he was a man who could hold his liquor, sort of. Sometimes what he actually said didn’t make much sense, whether or not the alcohol affected his speech. "And it... she? had interesting sstuff to say." He frowned and drank again. The creature was confusing and it was difficult to think about that encounter like this... maybe that was why he was drinking? To not think about it? Then, he decided, he was being counter productive and frowned at his hands. Illyraya or whatever it had called itself - herself? had asked a pretty good question.Â
"People keep dying," he decided on, to put it simply and without naming anyone. "And whenever ssomeone isn't dying, the bad guyss are just on their way." The lights from the road caught his eyes. "Caught in traffic," he muttered distractedly. "I don't know how to kill a hybrid, do you? Sso what’s the point if everything just keepss getting more… urgent?" It was rhetorical and he shook his head before taking another long pull out of the bottle. There was a point. He just couldn’t put it into words. Alaric looked over at Buffy, knowing she had definitely dealt with crap before. So she was in Angel's little group... or not, because she'd been pretty angry, he recalled now... but she did definitely deal with the supernatural on some kind of regular basis. How many more were there like them? Who just seemed normal to an onlooker? Normal was such a fantasy. Even normal, this sort of thing wasn't right. Jeremy and Elena needed someone better than him to look after them. He was just that lost cause, struggling not to do anything to piss off whoever was in charge and hope for the best. That much was difficult when not much good had transpired in a bit.
Buffy:
Quickly, since the thought of her lecture was still on her mind, Buffy had snatched away Ric's booze, hurled it with as much slayer might and strength as she could muster, and heard it crash somewhere in the parking lot a great distance away. He may have hated her just then, but he would appreciate it in the morning. Ric was different than most of the other teachers and staff at Washington. He didn't judge, ignore, or patronize her. He actually listened to her whenever she had something to say and didn't outright classify her as unqualified or otherwise an idiot. She could recall an instance in the teacher's lounge whenever Buffy tried to be helpful and offer suggestions towards how to handle a situation, only to be shot down like rapid fire from every pretentious teacher. Chiming in, Ric seemed to be genuinely interested in what she had to say, and even if he feigned it, it still meant a lot to Buffy, so that was why she had felt the need to steal away his booze for the better of it all.
“The hardest thing in this world... is to live in it. So be brave, live.” She said to Ric thoughtfully, replaying the moment in her mind whenever she had sacrificed herself for her sister. “And the point is, you have people you have to take care of, people that don't know how to fully take care of themselves, that is the point.” She told him, informing him of something he was already aware of, in her statement, she made it seem as if she were finishing a sentence, because she really wanted Ric to believe it. At least, in her own life, the perfect timing and marriage of the arrival of Dawn and now the Slayer Organization had granted Buffy with this immense responsibility, and it wasn't that she had always been a responsible individual, because she surely wasn't. She had evolved from selfish, self-centered, and self-important Buffy, into a young woman whose determination, obstinance, and refusal to back down that had made her into a very unorthodox, but effective caregiver.
“Come on, we're gonna get you home.” Buffy said kindly, standing up, brushing her jeans off, and plucking Alaric Saltzman up with minimal effort. Too drunk too walk? She'd support him. Too emotional to think rationally? She'd think for him. Couldn't get home? She'd get him there.
