Episode 38 Bonus: the trajectory of post-WW1 German Expression culminates in the most practical expression of German angst you ever did see. (What’s German for “over it”?) (erm... uber das? Don’t @ me). Anyway, that’s exactly what the artists of the New Objectivity were: over the romantic subjectivity, into a kind of steely and sardonic objectivity that gave them the license to separate themselves from the pain, not steep fully in it like a teabag. I mean, you can just go. Like Don Draper, you can think he’s a jerk. He’s not even thinking of you at all. . 🔗in bio . #beckmann #maxbeckmann #newobjectivity #neuesachlichkeit #germanexpressionism #podcastersofinstagram #thelonelypalette #podcast #arthistory #arthistorypodcast (at Harvard Art Museums) https://www.instagram.com/p/BvwWcDplXA1/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=2c9ovd74jh7b
