i might get jumped for this but i have always seen chapters 49-51, specifically the struggle between lenore and montresor, as analogous for sexual assault. and seeing how many people ignore the uncomfortable implications of that scene makes me feel like im kind of going crazy. am i alone in this?
montresor describes lenore as a “wild mustang” he’s “fixin’ to tame for the thrill,” violates her by invading her memories, repeatedly holds her down, and is clearly shown to enjoy degrading, abusing and objectifying women. & it just unsettles me a bit that these elements of his character are so infrequently discussed. i know it’s an uncomfortable topic, and that montresor himself is seemingly also a victim of sexual violence, but im really tired of seeing people babygirlify the sadistic misogynistic predator without stopping to think over some of his canon behaviors. im genuinely not trying to police anyone’s personal choices or interpretations but i do find it odd as it implies that somehow my reading of that situation was either an uncommon one or that people just don’t care. i’d like to know which it is bc those chapters are so nightmarishly evocative that they make me feel a lil bit ill tbh
tldr i think montresor is a weird freak and i wanna know if im alone in my interpretation of his fight with lenore

To be honest, I never quite picked up on this, but you've opened my eyes. I went back to read on what you've pointed out —
And yeah. Wow. I'm deeply uncomfortable. Quotes that stuck with me were :
"Go on, take my hand. . . Aw, shucks, I wasn't asking nicely,"
"There's nothing to win from this sort of intrusion! Have you no shame at all?"
"We had a good old time, didn't we?"
"If you ever get lonely, let me know. I could probably find a use for you."
I think it's also very important to note how Lenore's queerness ties into this. She's a "wild mustang" to "tame," just another version of "I can fix you."
As a lesbian, that really stuck with me.
I think that, while we're acting as readers, and we're witnessing the fight between Lenore and Montresor, we tend to see the scene as face-value. I don't think many people are ignoring it — I also took it as face valve. I was deeply uncomfortable reading it for the first time, I remember, and couldn't explain why. Now that I reread it, the implications are clear as day.
I don't think you'll get jumped. I think you're right.
The more I go back and reread the episodes, the more I hate Montresor. Like, genuienly hate him.

Annabel is a super jealous girlfriend. She’s the embodiment of the “you know other women” meme. The only reason why Ada has lived for as long as she has is because Annabel never found out about her undressing in front of Lenore. Did everyone see the annoyed, pouty look she threw Lenore’s way when Prospero snitched to her about Ada sucking up to Lenore

MY ENGLISH TEACHER IS A MORELLADA/EULUTO SHIPPER HELLO????? HE SAID "As for the webcomic, I think Morella would've been a better partner for her" < (Ada)
"Eula and Pluto remind me of my nephew and his girlfriend, they are very cute together"
THIS WAS THE BEST ENGLISH CLASS OF MY LIFE 🥹

Some character critique is completely fair but not being able to understand a character's actions doesn't always mean they're shallow or poorly written sometimes it means you're just mad they're not relateable to you specifically or that you need to learn to think from other perspectives. Is Berenice just a shallow party girl or was she heavily implied to be a girl in a vulnerable position trying to find a better life with her cousin, then promised a better life by some old rich creep only to have that taken away from her and then probably betrayed by her only connection and family, leading to a more jaded and paranoid outlook? Is Lenore just Annabel's mindless love interest letting her get away with things for no reason or does she have established survivor's guilt and a martyr complex, which will sometimes make her act irrationally and contradict herself in an attempt to prevent literally anyone she cares about from dying ever again, and also completely destroyed boundaries from her time held prisoner and drugged out of her mind? Is Eulalie a manic pixie dream girl who's only depth is as a love interest, or are the moments where the other characters refuse to take her seriously because of her neurodivergence supposed to be moments where you feel frustrated FOR her, which she actually does get upset about herself in moments where she catches onto it? On that note, does the character who has a crush on her only like her because she's pretty or does he actually have something to offer her as well in being quick to snap back at or redirect the subtle jabs others make at her because they have the shared experience of not being taken seriously or respected by others? While there are certain characters who I would also love to have more information about, there's plenty of story left for that to happen. And it's not apologism or glazing the authors to actually think more deeply about the characters' motivations and to try to understand everyone.
