I don’t care if this is good or not. I don’t care if this is clichè or if my adjectives are not fancy enough or if I’m rusty. I just need to write. It’s been too long.
The self deprecating thoughts tore at Cole’s mind. Long, dark claws sunk into his brain- slicing away at ease as if the pink matter were jello. They dug further and further in- picking and prodding and-
“Cole?” A shift back into reality- comparable to a freight train moving from one location to the next. He breathed. His eyes rapidly moved from one area to the next. Flowers. Grass. Trees. Outside. He is outside He felt oxygen enter and exit. In and out. In and out. He placed a hand on his chest. His heartbeat. He had a heartbeat. His nose was cold. It twitched. The cool breeze whipped at him. “Why’d you stop?” The other voice murmured. Cole silently lifted his hand up. His plush, soft skin connected with a coarse texture. Hair belonging to the weight in his lap. There laid a man- hugging his waist tightly as his head was pressed up against Cole’s stomach. Cole’s fingers gingerly brushed through the man’s long hair. Brush. Brush. Breathe. Hold the tears back. Nothing to worry about now. Stay in the moment. It’s okay. You’re okay. You’re going to be okay.
“Cole.” The man’s voice cut in once more. Cole could feel the man shifting- no. The man’s flesh seemed to expand against Cole’s own. Warmth spread across his back and torso. Growing larger and larger until he found himself resting in a gigantic palm. The face resting against him wasn’t any less colossal. The gargantuan head shifted for a moment- practically nuzzling him and forcing him against the fingers which towered over him. He found himself sandwiched between two cupped palms and a head that took up his entire view and more. The man removed his face from Cole. Golden iris’s bore into his own. Cole’s eyes moved from one opposing eye to the next- he was far too small to stare at both.
“C’mon. You’re breathing all weird. What’s up with you?” His voice was low. As quiet as he could make it. But not deep- simply enhanced in volume. It vibrated the very air around him- reverberating his very bones. A warm gust of air that smelled of mint flooded Cole’s nostrils. He mindlessly ran his fingers over the different ridges and dips and folds of the giant’s skin. A habit of his that helped to ground him. He found comfort in these textures.
“I’m fine, Stone. I was just spiraling again.” Cole mumbled the last part of the sentence. A digit larger than his entirety placed itself atop his head. It moved back and forth in a rhythmic fashion. Back and forth. Back and forth. The strength of his finger caused Cole’s head to move in the same way. Back and forth. Cole could only relax his shoulders and allow the gentle petting to commence. He was surrounded by the large being’s minty breath, warmth, his imposing presence, his eyes that did nothing but stare. A comfortable overstimulation. Anything to cease his precious tormenting thought.
“Cole-“ His brows were furrowed in concern.
“I said I’m fine, Stone. They’re already gone.”
“When did they start?”
“Doesn’t matter. It was over stupid things again.”
“Doesn’t matter how stupid they are. They keep on putting you in- they’re hurting you. They’re bothering you. It doesn’t matter what it’s about.” Stone’s finger dragged down the side of his face, bending his finger and using his knuckle as a replacement. His knuckle ran over Cole’s cheek. Cole closed his eyes and rested his head against the giant’s knuckle. Once more it pulled his face along with the movements. The corner of Stone’s lips twitched. Despite the rather emotional subject, he couldn’t help but admire the little human. He appeared to be so peaceful despite his trouble. Completely at ease.
“I know my feelings matter and yadda yadda. But they really aren’t that bad. I brought these worries upon myself.” Stone opened his mouth to interject, but he was interrupted by Cole’s movements. Stone lifted his free hand a few inches away from the smaller individual and watched with curious eyes as Cole shifted into fetal position. He was practically weightless. It barely caused a dip in his palm. Cole stretched his arms out- latching onto the finger Stone was petting him with. He guided the large digit towards himself and hugged it- pressing it tightly against his body. Stone didn’t dare to move. It took all of his will to prevent himself from embarrassingly squealing and kicking his legs like a little girl.
“I don’t want to think about them now. Just don’t bring it up for now, would ya?” Cole sleepily mumbled. Stone begrudgingly agreed. The same result as last time, and the same result as the next, and the time after that. Running further and further away from his problems until someone throws a banana peel onto the track- and he slips, remaining on the ground with a tooth shattered and a broken nose- eyes going glossy as he watches his problems run past him with ease. Until he can run from them until no longer. But for now, they rest- basking in the safety of one another.
