Highlights from the 2018 Near East Side Hop
The Near East Side Hop (NES Hop) returned last month after a two-year hiatus. The week-long event, organized partially by Partners for Achieving Community Transformation (PACT) celebrated arts, culture, and community in the Near East Side.
The week kicked off with a sold out country continental brunch in the Veridian Room of the Franklin Park Conservatory. Brunch attendees had the option of also exploring the adjacent Children’s Garden at no cost, as part of their brunch ticket. The Maryland Pool on Atcheson Street had a pool party on their final day of the 2018 season.
There were a few events co-sponsored with the Harlem Renaissance Centennial Celebration, including a photography exhibit at the Maroon Arts Group (the shipping containers at Mount Vernon Avenue and Seventeenth Street), a mural creation at the Martin Luther King Library, and an arts block party on Monroe Avenue, where artists painted murals, and there were games and food trucks on the block. Â
Other events included a Saturday morning Yoga session, a Saturday morning hip-hop fitness workout, and a home tour organized by the Columbus Urban League. There was also a game night at the Poindexter Village Community Center, as well.
