I’m about to go full-on-#nerdilicious. So, I tried to see the Capt Marvel movie with an open mind. After 30 min, I couldn’t. The movie completely cheapened the character, and tried so hard to do what Wonder Woman did so naturally. . The depth of the character was nothing more than the shell of a soldier with little memory. Anyone with any nerd-sense knew what was coming from the first training scene. The humor tried a bit too hard, everything was just off. The attempt to push how awesome and amazing the female warrior is killed the character trait of her being an awesome and amazing female warrior. It tried so hard to do what Wonder Woman did with half the dialogue, half the fight scenes, and one more facial expression. The sad part is I don’t think they meant for it to look like they were trying that hard, but the lack of story, character depth, character development, and cheap #NickFury lines brought it to light. . It’s a real shame, because Captain Marvel is a 1000 times more damaged than the movie made her out to be. She’s much more vulnerable, which made her feats even more heroic. She’d lost so much and dealt with her losses in a much more human way, and rose above it with more than “photon blasts”. I started to think that this movie was more for little girls. I mean, if that’s it, then it makes perfect sense. If this movie was more for the entire family, then it doesn’t make sense. . Is it fun? Yep. It was a fun movie. It’s one I could’ve waited for on DVD. It has the feel of, “We’re tired of making superhero movies and just want to put out End Game - So, blah.” . Is this movie worth the watch? Hmmm...I’d say, “Yes”. It’s not a big deal, but it’s a fun movie, and it’s great for little girls. The lack of character depth doesn’t take away from the fun and the cool little Easter eggs in the movie. But if you’re interested...here’s just a snippet of how deep she really is, and of her history with the X-MEN; rogue in particular. It’s not too deep and it’s a quick read.
