#nerdfighter note

The Nerdfighter community brought me and the love of my life together. A few months before we met even. When I bought my copy of Alaska, there was a Nerdfighter note in it which first introduced me to Nerdfighteria. I was hooked instantly and really enjoyed the community. My girlfriend and I went to the same school and she one day added me on facebook, I noticed her banner photo was of The Fault in Our Stars. I sent her a message and we got to talking and really hit it off. We bonded very hard over John's books and the fact that we're both Nerdfighters. We started dating and then roughly a year later, I posted a photo on instagram of my Nerdfighter note, which I kept, Thanking whoever made it for bringing us together. I was then bombarded by calls and texts from my girlfriend only to find out that, it was in fact her, who wrote the note. Nerdfighteria gave me the happiest days of my life with my favorite person and I am ever grateful to John, Hank, and the entire Nerdfighter community.

I wanted to submit this today because as I’m typing this, it is exactly 4 years since I became a Nerdfighter. I had been a die-hard fan of Harry Potter for years by this point, and so obviously I was on Tumblr, and everywhere I looked, I saw people talking about John Green. So I decided on September 12th, 2013, as a senior in high school, to finally give in and read maybe one of his books. I went into my high school library and under the “G” in fiction, I found 2 books, An Abundance of Katherines and Paper Towns. I read An Abundance of Katherines first, and wasn’t entirely impressed, but I absolutely ADORED Paper Towns. Somewhere around the middle of the book, I found this note which read as follows;

“If you choose to read this book, and you enjoy it (which you will), you are made of awesome. If you want to increase your awesome and decrease world suck go to the channel ‘vlogbrothers’ on YouTube. Welcome to nerdfighteria and ‘Hello fellow nerdfighter!’ Don’t. Forget. To. Be. Awesome.”

So I go on YouTube that night when I got home, and I watch my first vlogbrothers video, and I’ve never looked back.

Nerdfighteria has brought me so much joy in life. I am incredibly grateful for it.

I haven't been anywhere or even done anything to possibly encounter or do a nice thing today... I'm stumped. So instead, I'm going to leave little 'nerdfigher note'-style messages in people's ask boxes.

It was in my local libraries copy of 'Looking for Alaska'
