Halastia and Nepherah met as many angels and demons do; someone got kidnapped. Buckle up coz it's a bit of a ride to get there.

Nepherah drinks way too much angel-caffeine, a trait she shares with Imperius. Actually, a lot of Valor have this issue. You’d think the military would be stricter about everyone’s diets. The bean-water is just too good to pass up though, and comes with the added bonus of waking you up when you need it. Handy!

Several angels wondered what would happen if she went without, and discovered that this typically makes for a very grumpy lieutenant. It was agreed that letting their pint-sized officer have her bean-water was the best course of action.

“Parents? Is that one of those mortal food things?” 

“No, they’re the people who um. Make you. And raise you - teach you how to do things. Love you and make sure you’re safe.” Zan looks thoughtful for a moment, before nodding determinedly.

“Oh.” Nepherah stares at the human, wings crackling. “We just call those mentors. Unless you mean the Arch, and all the angels who sang me into existence. Then I guess those might be my parent things.”

“Mentors sounds about right.”

“Very well. I might not be the best angel to ask about this - my mentor disappeared relatively early in my life, and then the system bounced me from angel to angel for a while.”

“Oh no, that’s uh- I’d hear about that too.”

“Really? Okay.” If Nepherah was judging the Horadrim’s curiosity, she was doing a bad job of hiding it. “I was alighted to the Host of Valor, and  assigned to an angel called Naecerag. She was also of the Host of Valor, but worked jointly under Commander Kolzus of Valor, and Advisor Inarius of Justice.”

“That’s allowed?”

“Not on paper, but she made it work.” There’s amusement in the angel’s resonance. “I was trained in the customs of both aspects for a short while before Naecerag went missing in battle. After that, I was technically Kolzus’s issue, and he dropped me off on anyone who had time.”

“Did you miss Naecerag?”

“I suppose. Angels don’t exactly perceive death the way humans do. I was anxious for her replacement to emerge from the Arch, so that we could train together.” Zan thinks she might be frowning. “Her replacement never emerged, and her name has faded from memory. Such is the Fate of those who followed Inarius to his Sanctuary.”
