anyone with even partial hearing is likely to have heard the yelling. sound carries in a trailer park and itâs a wonder no one has called the cops yet. but, this kind of thing is normal around here, nellâs learned. if itâs not coming from their trailer, itâs coming from someone elseâs.
theyâve been going for what feels like hours. or, paul has at least. nell doesnât even remember what had started everything off, but sheâs resorted to simply pleading with him. praying that heâll keep his voice down. it hasnât helped, and their daughterâs cries from the bedroom havenât gotten any less distressed. sheâd tried walking away, to offer lena the comfort she screams for, but a firm grip on her arm had prevented her from doing so.
it possibly is hours later that the door to the trailer flies open and nellâs eyes find themselves upon her cousin. she feels nothing but panic. he shouldnât be here. she knows her family hate paul as it is, but sheâs managed to keep this side of their relationship quiet for this long. the less they know, they safer sheâs felt, as stupid as that sounds. as long as they donât know, sheâs not hurting them.
