Envy - RQWK
Lex watched as the Kent boy was tightly embraced by Nell Kent. He shouldn't feel anything toward the teenager, after all he was loved by his own step-mother…
A pang of envy seized his heart as he thought about the mother he never knew. His father spoke of her fondly whenever asked, but he could see regret in the man's eyes, as if there was something about Lillian he didn't want to remember.
He wished he had known her, even if it would have been for a few years. Not knowing made watching Christopher be loved all the more difficult.
Okay imagine if that theory of Lionel having a fling with Nell is true.
IMAGINE The Kents finding out.
Jonathan: You and NELL!?!
Lionel: what about her?
Martha: It's just that....well I um.
Jonathan: Out of ALL the woman in the world Lionel!
Lionel: Why do you care?
Nell: Jonathan and I...used to do date.
Lionel: Holy shit really?
Nell: In high-school
Lionel: Oh this is delicious.
Lionel: Why do you care so much Jonathan? You're not stupid or rich enough to have a mistress.
Martha: Just because he stopped dating her doesn't mean he stopped caring about her?
Nell:
Nell: Wait why do YOU care?
Jonathan: He might hurt you!
Lionel: Have I given the impression that I want a long lasting relationship or future plans to get married?
Nell: No you have not.
Lionel: Naturally of course when this has run it's course I plan on giving you some nice earings.
Nell: Oooo what kind?
Lionel: Diamond of course.
Nell: Can you wait until my birthday or the holidays?
Jonathan: Oh my gos their bantering. Their making jokes!?
Scariest part of that situation for Jonathan is the jokes, because he would never expect that.
Smart kid.

God, the conversation that Lana has with Nell after quitting the cheerleading squad is insufferable. The main issue is there is a lot of misogyny on display from the writers who clearly only conceptualize cheerleaders as accessories to the football team rather than athletes in their own right who perform at football games, yes, but also have their own competitions and their whole own sport that they are engaging in.
As a result instead of Lana taking a stand and asserting her independence while Nell is slightly overbearing and controlling like the writers wanted, you have petulant and impulsive (and low key misogynistic) Lana with Nell being justifiably concerned but doing her best to be supportive. And it doesn’t help that they have Lana say she wants to earn money so she can travel in the summer. Girl, you are 15; you are not going traveling anywhere without adult supervision.
genuinely why would Nell make a necklace from a meteor that killed Lana's parents and make her wear it from the day she adopted her LOL
