Jessica Jones: AKA it’s Called Whiskey

Well it was certainly a very steamy episode this week in Jessica Jones, as we see more of Luke Cage and Jessica’s relationship definitely develop. As there bond with the realisation that both have powers. However their relationship doesn’t seem as clear cut as first expected.

What this episode brought was more of an insight to Carrie-Anne Moss’ character and shows how manipulative she can truly be. She is an interesting character being a strong lesbian portrayal, but not defined by her sexuality, instead she is a controlling and a strong governing body. Another character worth a mention is Trish Walker, who at least in the comics becomes the heroine Hellcat, she is a strong influence on Jessica and a good friend. She certainly adds to the strong female characters feature on Jessica Jones.

The main difference between this show and Daredevil, is the moral that face Jessica are much more shrouded in grey. Daredevil although brutal is still at his heart your classic hero. Jessica will do malicious actions for the greater good. Malcolm was the person to feel the brunt of this, even though he is a heroin addict, you do feel pity for him, and feel the unfairness of Jessica’s actions. She’s hardly a character I’d truly say is moral but she completely fills the architype of an anti-hero, a character that truly believe that the ends justifies the means.  

We discover more about Jessica Jones’ origins, glad the show is staying true the source material having her trying the superhero life, but decided it wasn’t for her. Also keeping with the comics having her having a past, being controlled by Kilgrave as he uses Jessica to aid him in his criminal activities. The Netflix show does bring a nice spin on Jessica’s origin to allow her to have more of an effect in the present day. As it causes a lot of problems for the people she cares about, and why she’s like the way she is.
