Needle Grass

As with most things in life, there is a good choice, and a better choice. In the case of Needle Grass, there is a bad choice and a great choice.

The bad choice? Non-native invasive Needle Grass varieties. These pests not only grow like a weed in your garden, but also your neighbor’s garden, and their neighbor’s garden, and so on- until all the parks and wild spaces surrounding your home are a giant field of one plant that is not friendly to birds or bees, and actually pretty boring by itself.

The great choice? Native Needle Grasses! They are just as strong as their non-native, invasive relatives, however they are also better adapted to local weather patterns, conditions, and ecosystems- and instead of overtaking a habitat completely, they peacefully coexist with their neighbors. Seen here, they are coexisting with native Buckwheats and Sages; adding interest to the garden, without the added maintenance, or embarrassing explanations to your neighbors.
