Kyoko's Relationships With Her Classmates Headcanons
Note: This is all rather no despair au, unless stated otherwise.
Sayaka Maizono
I imagine Kyoko having some sort of rivalry with Sayaka. Not because of Makoto but because of how different their ways of thinking are. Sayaka always relies on intuition and even calls her psychic, which would definitely annoy Kyoko. Kyoko bases everything on facts and logic, seeing someone commit every action without a thought and it intuition, would frustrate her. Also, I think Sayaka would never be able to understand Kyoko's way of being (just like Kyoko wouldn't understand hers) Sayaka would just not get why someone would be so pessimistic about life and hate being around people.
At the end of the day, Kyoko doesn't hate Sayaka and Sayaka doesn't hate Kyoko. If you ask them what they think about eachother, they will avoid answering because they don't want to say that they don't like the other one, since they know that the other is not a bad person or anything. They just don't like interacting with eachother.
Unfortunately for Kyoko, Sayaka is best friends with her boyfriend. Which would often mean that they would have to spend time together because nethier of them have the heart to tell Naegi that they don't like eachother because both of them want him to be happy. I like to think that Makoto would be something that would bring those two together, rather than separate them.
Mukuro Ikusaba
I don't think Kyoko would want to interact with anyone who sticks around with Junko (which I will talk about more later on). I don't think Kyoko would be able to get herself to respect someone who doesn't really respect themselves by letting Junko absolutely walk over them. I think, Kyoko would manage to have a friendship with Mukuro, only after Mukuro decides to stop acting like her sister is a good person. Mukuro would perhaps want to be friends with Kyoko, however Kyoko would make it clear what Mukuro has to do be her friend. Kyoko secretly feels bad when she watches people get used by other people. When Mukuro starts respecting themselves and acting like their real self, Kyoko actually gets to be friends with Mukuro.
Leon Kuwata
She wouldn't have a chance to be too close with Leon but they would be friends, not very close friends but friends. Leon admires Kyoko's genius. Kyoko finds it interesting how Leon's parents pressured him into being a baseball player but he wants to be a rockstar and he slowly moves forward that direction. She also was pressured by her family into her talent but Kyoko never had any other dreams, she couldn't afford to have them.
Kyoko considers Leon funny but she will never admit in her life.
Mondo Owada
Their relationship is complicated. They fight a lot but Mondo regrets it every time, he wishes that he had a better relationship with Kyoko. Mondo has huge anger issues which often results in him getting frustrated when Kyoko is calm all the time. Kyoko gets annoyed with people who get angry a lot, so that adds to the pot.
But whenever, Mondo is not pissed, they usually manage to have good conversations together. They're friends, although their relationship is hard sometimes. Kyoko knows she can count on Mondo and he knows he can count on her.
Chihro Fujisaki
They're not really close. They talk to eachother rarely since Chihiro prefers different types of company and so does Kyoko. It's not like they dislike eachother, they're just not very close friends. They find it hard to find topics to talk eachother about, Kyoko often comes off as mean to Chihiro which she doesn't mean.
Kiyotaka Ishimaru
As much as they're not very close friends, they respect eachother a lot. Kiyotaka and Kyoko relate to eachother at some points, they know how to feel constant pressure from their family. Kyoko admires Kiyotaka's skills and how she's good at so many things at once while Kiyotaka admires Kyoko's intelligence and detective skills a lot.
Hifumi Yamada
Hifumi and Kyoko don't often get to talk to each other. Kyoko often feels bad for Hifumi whenever he lets someone walk over him (most of the time that someone is Celestia). She tries to talk about it to him, Hifumi takes Kyoko's words seriously because he respects Kyoko a lot. Hifumi works on setting boundaries with other people, thanks to Kyoko. They're friends.
Celestia Ludenberg
They strongly dislike eachother. Kyoko feels uncomfortable by Celestia all the time. Celestia lies all the time, she lies about her whole personality and existence, Kyoko has trust issues and hates being lied to. That combantion doesn't mix well.
When Kyoko is around Celestia, she constantly feels a need to have her guard on so she can make sure she doesn't get lied to. This results in Kyoko being tried after spending too much time with Celestia. Kyoko doesn't trust Celestia at all.
Celestia dislikes Kyoko too but since Celestia is a lair she acts like she doesn't. She gets annoyed with Kyoko not being afraid to call out her lies infront of everyone, they often have arguments about it.
Sakura Ogami
They're best friends, they love eachother platonically. Sakura understands Kyoko and Kyoko understands Sakura. They both put too much pressure on eachother and both make sure the other is not doing that. Kyoko struggles with self care and Sakura helps her with it. Sakura hates to watch Kyoko not take proper care of herself. They argue sometimes, since they're both pretty stubborn but they always end up making up. Despite having completely different talents, they end up making an unbreakable friendship.
Junko Enoshima
They obviously hate eachother. Kyoko can't stand someone who has no respect for other people, uses them and constantly puts them down. Junko has no empathy for other people, Kyoko can't possibly sympathize with someone like that.
Junko hates Kyoko too. Junko hates how Kyoko always criticizes everything she does. Junko finds Kyoko boring and annoying.
Makoto Naegi
They're in love. Makoto have loved Kyoko ever since he saw her, Kyoko loved him ever since she got to know him better. They're an unexpected couple but a beautiful one.
Makoto is an optimistic person, Kyoko is a pessimistic one. Makoto wants to show Kyoko that life is not as terrible and grey as she thinks. He shows her in many different ways by constantly taking her to different places, just so he can prove that life in fact is beautiful. And it works, Makoto brings color to Kyoko's grey world.
Makoto loves everything about Kyoko, while she secretly hates herself and can't understand why Makoto loves her so much. Kyoko loves Makoto's optimism so much, she loves how he brings her hope. She feels extremely comfortable and happy around him and so does he.
Yasuhiro Hagakure
He's like an older brother to her, even though she's more mature mentally than him. He loves taking care of her and especially making her laugh. He is one of the few people who never fail to make her smile even when his jokes are extremely stupid. Kyoko helps Hiro too, especially with school work. She is the reason why he passes his classes. Hiro gives surprisingly good advice and relationships and interacting with other people.
Byakuya Togami
They started rough. Kyoko hated Byakuya's adatiute and Byakuya hated hers. Kyoko would after sometime get to know Byakuya and realize that he isn't actually that bad. At first year of them going to school together, Byakuya would be an absolute ashole but after some time he would stop looking down at people that much. His relationship with Kyoko is something like frenemies. They LOVE to tease eachother.
This works better in the canon tbh, when they survive the killing game together which encourages Byakuya to change his attitude a bit and then Byakuya
Toko Fukawa
They have it bitter sweet. They don't always get along but they secretly consider eachother friends. Toko sometimes gets annoyed with Kyoko and Kyoko sometimes gets annoyed with Kyoko. Again, this is a case of someone not respecting themselves and letting others walk over them, which Kyoko always hates to see. The first year would be when Toko had her obsession with Byakuya the most, that's when Kyoko wouldn't really want to hang out with her because every attempt of Kyoko trying to help Toko, would end with a huge argument. Eventually, Toko's obsession gets smaller and she understands why Kyoko wanted to help her.
After that, they become friends, they talk about books together. Kyoko is a fan of Toko's work and really respects her skills.
In the canon, Kyoko and Toko get to be closer friends since they survived the killing game together.
Aoi Asahina
They're best friends. Aoi loves spending time with Kyoko. Kyoko is already friends with Sakura, they often hand out all together. Aoi and Sakura encourage Kyoko to do sport activities with them which Kyoko isn't a fan of, she often ends up help with equipment or provide water.
Aoi is number 1 naegiri shipper, she always gives Kyoko advice not only about love and romantic relationships but also about feelings and relationship in general. Aoi is the friend that helps Kyoko get ready for her dates with Makoto.
Aoi also encourages Kyoko to try more sweet food that Kyoko never tried before. It usually goes "You never had *food name*?! Here I'll buy it for you!"
Genocide Jack
You can already guess that Kyoko doesn't like Genocide Jack because of their...."hobbies". Genocide Jack seems to enjoy teasing Kyoko since they enjoy teasing everyone, however they don't enjoy how Kyoko never laughs or smiles at their jokes.
In the canon, Kyoko feels a bit more sympathy for Genocide Jack since they survived the killing game together.
And that's all. I hope you enjoyed this.
Few notes before I go:
- Those are headcanons
- If you disagree pls don't be rude about it. (I also don't really care if you disagree so, you don't have to comment about it)
- The reason why Kyoko lacks female friendships here is because she has more with the sdr2 female cast (material for part 2 maybe?)
