Alright I don’t know where to ask but if you’re into modding your DS Lite please tell me where I can buy a cheap DSOne/DSTwo flashcart. Reddit won’t give links to shops so just asking around
i did a full shell replacement on my childhood ndsl (nintendo dslite) and i feel i have learned many things about the nature of the ndsl and also the trials and tribulations of trying to maintain and care for aging things.
i think the ndsl is something like a siphonophore in that all of the tiny parts preform their own distinct actions and functions within the machinations of the system. the ndsl is not one creature but many colonies of creatures operating as one. this makes the ndsl part of the cniderian family and so it probably grows in polyps.
all of the small parts housed inside of the ndsl are very happy where they live, but once they have experienced the freedom of the outside world they are very reluctant to go back in.
the ribbon cable which connects the top screen to the motherboard needs to be wrapped around itself to fit through the hinge. this is very precarious and second in difficulty only to the shoulder buttons.
the creator of the ndsl spring and pin system for the shoulder buttons is evil and should be hunted for sport.
if you strip a tiny screw you should take it into a phone or electronics repair store and they will get it out for you. i meant to replace one of the stripped screws from my original system with a new one from the shell kit, but i forgot to and the stripped screw became stuck. i went to a local phone repair place and they were completely empty, but the guy was more than happy to take out the screw. what was a 90 minute ordeal of trying random youtube hacks (none of which worked for my particular problem) became a 30 second solution for someone with the right tools.
it's important to get up and walk around or stretch once every 30-60 minutes when you're hunched over a desk for multiple hours. i did not do this and i am suffering the consequences (tight shoulders and lower back pain).
the nintendo dslite released in america on june 11, 2006. this was the summer between my 7th and 8th birthday. my earliest memory of my ndsl is playing tamagotchi corner shop 2 in the hotel of the resort my family stayed at in Mexico during the summer of 2007, so it's safe to assume i got it either for christmas 2006 or my 8th birthday in spring of 2007. the game i played the most of was animal crossing: wild world which i received as a gift for christmas in 2006 or 2007; i think it's important to note that i did not ask for animal crossing: wild world. if you have aging technology that means something to you, i encourage you to save the parts you can for future repair or to look into a repair service through local electronics stores or online listings. i have never done anything like this before. i have no background knowledge or expertise in electronics or repair. all i have is the love i've carried for almost 20 years for a little black handheld device that was discontinued a decade ago. i wanted my ndsl to continue living even if it wasnt in the same shell i knew it as or the ability to use all of its original parts. after 5 hours of hunching over my office desk and fiddling with pins and springs and ribbon cables i closed the battery pack up and turned it on.
