I did some sketch card work for 暮光 muguang for their Ancient Legends card set. It was fun. The card stock was nice and it was a bit challenging to come up with ideas for the cards. The Gowrow. Arkansas, USA January 31, 1897, possible earlier sightings. One such incident seems to be the shooting of the dragon-like Gowrow on January 31 1897. Supposedly the posse of townsfolk found its lair, a cave that was littered about with human and animal remains. The creature came out of the nearby lake and was eventually shot multiple times, but not before biting off one person’s leg and uprooting trees. Supposedly it was 20 feet long, with tusks, and a row of small horn-spikes down its back. The Kappa is a creature in Japanese Folklore. In places where it is rumoured to roam, warning signs have been placed to ward away children and tourists. Kappa's are water demons with incredible elastic arms. They lure people to their pools and drown them to eat them. This drawing is of a Kappa that was supposedly captured on a beach in Japan in 1836. According to the records at the time, this kappa was 1 meter long, weighing 45 kg and had a bent neck and protruding chest. The Sea Monk, or sometimes Sea Bishop, was the name given to a sea animal found off the eastern coast of the Danish island of Zealand in 1546. It has also been sighted by two fishermen and some nearby swimmers in Pula, Croatia in the year 2011 and is one of the more popular sightings of the cryptid in the Adriatic sea. It was described as a "fish" that looked superficially like a monk. It was mentioned and pictured in the fourth volume of Conrad Gesner's famous Historia Animalium. Gesner also referenced a similar monster found in the Firth of Forth, according to Boethius, and a sighting off the coast of Poland in 1531. The sea monk was subsequently popularized in Guillaume du Bartas's epic poem La Sepmaine; ou, Creation du monde, where the poet speaks of correspondences between land and sea.
