Born and raised in Merrock, Nathan is the youngest child of Damian and Antonia Ames. He was an active and curious child, giving way too many 'why' and 'how' questions to his parents and older siblings, driving them crazy at times. He eventually learned that if he wanted to know about something, he should figure things out himself. Unfortunately, the things he most curious about are the mechanics of how things work. There were a lot of things that got destroyed as he tried to figure out why and how they work. As he got older though, he got better at putting them back together.

He's always been interested with heights, not finding it the least bit scary. That interest turned into passion, and after a flight or two with a family friend who owned a small plane, he not just learned how planes worked, he learned how to fly them as well. When he was old enough, he was able to get a pilot license even before he got his driving license.

He left town to pursue a degree in engineering. When his family learned what he wanted to do, none of them were surprised. It seemed logical for him to take that course. What they weren't prepared for was for him to tell them that he'd be joining the NAVY as a pilot. They were prepared, and wouldn't be the least bit surprised, to be told that he wanted to fly. They just didn't think he'd join the military to do so. Despite that, they were supportive of his choice.

WANTED DETAILS: They got married in 2007 and have three kids: the eldest child was born in 2010, the middle child was born in 2014 and the youngest child was born in 2019. I hc'd them meeting when they were both in university, doesn't matter if they went to the same university or not. You don't have to go this route if you don't want to, I'm not too fixed on that detail. Just as long as the timeline works. But, if you're going with this detail, they obviously need to be in the same city when they were in their early 20s. I have yet to decide where Nathan went to university so, at this point, it can be in any city. He was an engineering student but your muse didn't have to be.

He then learned, at least for anything technical, that if he wanted to know how things work, he needed to figure it out himself. Which, most of the time, meant he’d be breaking things apart to see if he could put them back together.

When he told his parents that he wanted to leave town to study engineering, his parents weren’t surprised. Their surprise came a little later when Nathan informed them that he had joined Naval ROTC and that he wanted to join the Navy. They didn’t really think too much of it, the Navy needed engineers too, so they hoped he’d be assigned somewhere ‘safe’. They weren’t expecting to be told that he’d go to flight school after he finished his degree, saying that the more he learned about how planes worked, the more he wanted to fly them instead of designing them.
