Maharashtra Joins Hands with Nasscom Foundation to Empower 15,000 Micro-Entrepreneurs
In a major step to strengthen the micro and small enterprise (MSE) ecosystem, the Government of Maharashtra has partnered with the Nasscom Foundation to launch a large-scale capacity-building initiative aimed at empowering 15,000 Udyam-registered entrepreneurs, with a strong focus on women-led enterprises.
The collaboration was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Maharashtra Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Ltd. (MSSIDC) and Nasscom Foundation, aligning with the spirit of International MSME Day.
The initiative will be implemented under the World Bank-supported RAMP (Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance) Programme, in partnership with the KPMG-led State Program Implementation Unit (SPIU). It seeks to address key challenges faced by MSMEs—including limited access to finance, weak digital presence, and lack of awareness about government schemes.
Key Features of the Initiative:
Capacity-building for 15,000 micro-entrepreneurs across Maharashtra
Target sectors: textiles, energy efficiency, handicrafts, coir, ODOP industries, manufacturing, renewable energy, and waste management
Practical training on digital tools, financial literacy, and Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs)
Guidance on formalizing business operations and accessing digital loan processes
Voices from the Leadership:
Jyoti Sharma, CEO, Nasscom Foundation, stated:
"Our MSMEs are full of potential but often lack access to the tools and knowledge needed to grow. Through this initiative, we aim to bridge that gap—especially for women entrepreneurs—by equipping them with digital skills, financial guidance, and policy awareness needed to thrive in a competitive economy."
Prashali Jadhav Dighavkar, Joint Managing Director of MSSIDC, emphasized:
"Strengthening MSMEs is vital for Maharashtra’s economic trajectory. Our focus on Intellectual Property Rights and structured support will enable small-scale industries to not only protect their innovations but also scale sustainably in a dynamic market."
This program is designed to shift entrepreneurs from informal to formal sectors, ensuring sustainable and resilient business growth. With clarity in government processes, enhanced capability through training, and stronger connections via ecosystem support, the initiative represents a step forward in building a future-ready MSME network in Maharashtra and beyond.
