Narumi has various nicknames for Mina bcs his jealousy for her taking spotlight / popularity among captains. Also since Isao mention her so much (massive daddy issue)

He calls her Cannon chan, Bazooka chan, third captain chan, Missing link chan etc.

Hoshina, freshly joins the third division- feels the irk that commander of 1st division never call His commander properly. Even tho Mina doesn't mind it (she mostly ignore him outside battle field) the vice commander can't accept disrespect toward his captain that he revered so much.

After a joint operation between 1st and 3rd division, Hoshina challenged Narumi on small kaijuu subjugation practice duel. If he win, Narumi must address the third commander properly and never by nickname.

The duel caused a scene, Of course because Narumi made announcement so more ppl would see him beat the new cheeky vice commander- Mina's subordinate no less. He will never miss a chance to look cool and better than anyone.

He was sure he can beat him easy. He hold the record afterall

The girls at base squeal and made it as the two strongest kaijuu combatant in Japan fighting over Mina.

Mina never understand what the commotion about, being asked by one of the girl. Which type she prefer (for romantic partner), Narumi or Hoshina ?

She thinks it's about the type of combatant she prefer in a battlefield.

She gives serious answer that she like both of them (they are useful to clear path for her shooting)

With Narumi she feels that she can take it easy (since he will kill the Honju himself) but Hoshina brings the best out of her.

The girls squeal again, saying they both has same chance (to become Mina's lover) and it will be decided with this duel. Making things inaccurately more dramatic.

Of course as per cannon, Hoshina won the duel, beat Narumi by 1 point.

Will find each other in any universe: Hoshikaf, Hoshimina, Kafmina

Like a pair of shoes, they make sense together: Ihareno, Okohoshi

Surprisingly normal and well-adjusted: Narunogi, Konomina

When Narumi makes an arrogant decision on the field, his fellow officers take his punishment into their own hands.

i am once again seeing parallels in places where you wouldn’t find them….

two young captains left to be in charge of a new generation and to protect a future for citizens ever since they were 18….

how does it to feel to have someone you CANT stop from sacrificing himself… all you can do is help him and respect his wishes because ultimately you all share the same goal: carry out your duty for humanity

i don't have the numbers weapon one but heck I CAN SEE the possibility of gen finding love and security in mina, though they only have little to no canon interactions sucks to be me. he's problematic yeah but he must have gone through a lot as an orphan and somehow mina possesses a kind of warmth that makes you think she can soothe and heal all his issues (like she did to soshiro). at least that's what it looks like to me.

i've only kept this to myself this whole time but heck, mina is a very strong female character and she definitely needs more recognition. i really wish we got to see more of her in the series, considering she's kafka's main driving force and she changed soshiro's life. the df officers all look up to her, she's an inspiration to the aspirants, and she's had her influence on gen too.

idk how this rambling went from gen to mina lol but oh well, they're interesting characters in the first place and i just can't help but think about what more there is to them that we haven't seen, particularly their dynamic. i didn't expect myself to say these very words but yeah - i ship this boyfailure with kafka's childhood gf 😖✋🏻

Mina: These are my right-hand men, my guiding light and my shelter. They complement me and complete me. I waited my life to have them by my side and I would wait a thousand more.
