Amonkhet: Egyptian flavor! Zombie tribal! -1/-1 counters! I love the flavor and there are design elements I like, but there aren’t that many cards I’m actually interested in owning. I kind of feel like limited suffers from a ‘the RW aggro deck wins’ problem, and an overabundance of irrelevant artifact removal. There’d better be a Phoenix in Hour of Devastation.

Kaladesh block: Steampunk filigreepunk! Lots of cool fiddly artifacts! Dwarves! A plot that isn’t about the end of the world for once! Vehicles are kinda neat. Energy is interesting but there just aren’t enough cards for it yet to make me excited. The Gatewatch’s stranglehold on planeswalker card slots is starting to get tiresome. I really like Kaladesh.

Shadows over Innistrad: Eldritch horror! Clues! Tribal! Delirium is interesting. Madness returns, which is kinda cool. I am briefly interested in trying to build a standard deck with Clues and Ghirapur Aether Grid, but too many decks maindeck Dromoka’s Command. Shadows is nice, but then...

Eldritch Moon: Meld is cool, and that’s about it outside of a few more cards for SOI mechanics and tribes. There weren’t any more Clues, I feel strongly that as a blue Path to Exile Imprison in the Moon is out of pie, and the plane’s original horror flavor is basically ruined for future returns. Avacyn and most of the angels are dead, and I’m not sold on Nahiri as a villain. I’m not a fan of Eldritch Moon.

Battle for Zendikar block: Converge is Sunburst 2.0. Not a fan of Temporary Buffs Only tribal from allies. Colorless tribal is kind of interesting. Landfall returns, but fails to have much in the way of exciting cards. The colorless mana symbol is probably a good idea, but introducing it in the second set probably isn’t. I don’t feel strongly about the formation of the Justice League Gatewatch. Battle for Zendikar is pretty meh.

Magic Origins: Thopters! Renown! Cards from lots of different planes! A bunch of cool cards for different decks! I really like the 10 color pairs limited setup. Origin stories are fun. I really like Magic Origins.

Khans of Tarkir block: Morph returns! Wedges! Dragon tribal! Manifest! Some absolutely gorgeous art! Alesha is cool! but then she’s dead. Anafenza is cool! but then she’s dead. Narset is cool! and she gets to be a planeswalker! Time travel and changing the past is a bit of a can of worms that I’m not sure is a good idea. Bit of a downer ending where humanity is enslaved and the world is now More Allied Color Pairs instead of wedge (or even enemy colors for once), but overall I really like Tarkir.
