Northern California fires - October 2017

The past 24hrs has been devastating to say the least. I worry for my friends. Worry for those that lost their home. Worry for the economic effect this is going to have in our valley. What I’ve seen is that together we are stronger. Natural disasters are happening all over but when our roots are strong anything is possible. I’ve seen appreciation, solidarity, love and a deep caring for our neighbor. Just like a vine root... when we grow together and collaborate we are stronger. Love you Napa! Yesterday, Team Wiener delivered several hundred bags of food to the Redwood Empire Food Bank in Santa Rosa. And boy did they need it - this food bank is now serving 1,500 people a day and growing. Food goes out as quickly as it comes in. There was a long line of cars waiting to get into the pickup area to get food. So many people are in need. You did this: San Francisco and Daly City residents came together to support our neighbors to the north in their time of need. Thank you to everyone who donated food and also to the various organizations and unions that opened up their doors to receive the food. Big thanks to Chariot and the Teamsters for helping us drive the food up. Thank you to Assemblyman Jim Wood (who represents Sonoma County and the North Coast), Board of Equalization Member Fiona Ma, Millbrae City Councilman Wayne Lee, and other volunteers for helping us unload and sort the food. Finally, my amazing district staff (Jeff, Victor, Anna, and Francis) rocked it by organizing and executing this entire effort. Awesome team effort.
