This floral dress, with its distinctive scalloped edging on the sleeves, was designed by Travis Banton and first appeared in the 1930 Paramount film π―ππππ, worn by Nancy Carroll in the role of Olivia Dangerfield. Β Later that same year, the dress surfaced again in π»ππ π¬πππ ππ πππ πΎππππ , where Una Merkel wore what appears to be the same design as Sybil LaGrange. While the film is now considered lost, an illustration of Merkel on the cover of a reprint of the original novel suggests she was indeed wearing the same costume. Β Whether itβs the exact same dress is unknown. Since the films were produced by different studios, itβs possible the design was purchased off the rack or reproduced separately.
