XV. Nacho Eterno
I can’t pinpoint exactly when I first came across Nacho’s work, but what I can remember is that I’d never seen anything quite as eclectic and exciting as his art. Between painting elaborate and often expansive murals and creating tattoos in his signature, bold and almost psychedelic palette of colours, his work treads as closely towards art (from a traditional/movement sense) as possible. Like that of Fuzi, I am intrigued not only by the work that he has created but where artists like this are taking tattooing, forging an interplay between canvasses of both brick and of skin.
What’s your earliest memory of tattoos/tattooing? I made my first tattoo 4-5 years ago. I started while I was studying graphic design in my hometown and at the beginning it was like a hobby. This is the first year that I’m focused on it. What is your full birth name? Nacho González. Where in the world do you most feel at home? Barcelona!! At the moment is perfect for me I think. What’s the last movie you watched? Blue Velvet. What takes up the most of your time when you’re not tattooing? Painting murals or drawing at home. Describe your style in less than 5 words. Simple, bold, ethnic and personal. How important is escaping city-life, to you? Sometimes I like go to the suburbs to paint and enjoy the peace and the pure air that doesn’t exist in the centre of Barcelona. What’s the last tattoo you made? The yellow and black jaguar. What tattooer do you admire/respect the most? Its difficult to decide only one. There are many great tattooers at the moment in the scene. York Yeh, Dan Santoro, Toothtaker or Rotor are some of them. Do you gravitate towards a certain colour/palette in your work? Yes, I always try to work along the same lines but Im developing and testing new combinations. Does the popularity of tattooing make you cynical or optimistic for the future? Im an optimist, Im new in tattoo panorama and I wanna travel and meet another artist. Do you have a guilty pleasure? Sometimes I spend so many time thinking in stupid things... Haha. What’s the best thing about Instagram? Instagram is the most powerful advertising tool at the moment and you can check the work of another artist and make your work visible worldwide. How do you stay inspired? I think that you have to work to find the inspiration.I also check old paintings and the work of any kind of artistic discipline. How musical are you? I love music! It can change your state of mind and make your life happier! I like many kind of music; jazz, soul, reggae, rock... There are different styles for different moments. Who or what has shaped your style? I think my parents taste had marked my vision of art. They always took me to museums since I was a child and they love artist like Miró, Chillida and Picasso among others. My studies are important in my way of work too, I studied Graphic design and then Illustration. I always try to simplify. If you could be tattooed by one person for the rest of your life, who would you chose? It’s difficult to decide, but maybe I will choose Rotor cause he is so versatile. Will humans still be getting tattooed in a hundred years? We cant never know this kind of things but I think tattoo would be alive for a long time and its going to change a lot.
