The English Muffin Session two: After the party recovered from the flamboyant mini-boss battle, they made their way up to the main deck. Naturally, there were some baddies awaiting them. They were pitted against 5 Human Bandits (MM1 pg. 162). This battle took almost 2 hours. It was blasphemy. Though there was one good thing that came out of this battle... Taj Mahal (the rogue) was throwing one of his newly acquired Duelist Shurikens at an enemy. Many people don't really know this, but a thrown magical weapon will always return to the owner after it is thrown. Taj Mahal managed to get a critical miss. SO instead of utterly punishing him, I had him throw the shuriken as normal, swing completely around the enemy, and on its way back, it hit a JELLYFISH that jumped right up out of the sea. The whole party was astounded and they all had a sense of deep success because they resolved the Jellyfish Incident (or so they thought, but more on that later). This goes to show that even on a critical miss, good things can still happen! Following the disposal of the bodies, the Captain of the ship (Eladrin Arcane Archer MM2 pg.96)came out of his little captain's hold thing...(What is that even called???) along with his two Iron Defenders (MM1 pg.156). Naturally, the players saw the adorable metallic dogs layered in spikes and just had to have them. I was seriously reluctant at first, but I decided to let them have the dogs if they could kill the eladrin first, and then switch the Defender's Focus target over to themselves. They eventually beat the eladrin to death and then half beat the dogs to death in order to intimidate them into servitude. In the end, I believe The English Muffin and N-Dog got one defender each. The party as a whole received the following items:
