in working on my MythoScience project I’ve been trying to learn about more obscure mythical beasts and I’m thinking hard about Happy Feet rn (best movie ever) so I was like Okay. Are There Any Penguins. and Lo and Behold
this is the orange breasted penguin from New Zealand. it’s a cryptid which technically counts of a mythical creature (at least in my opinion). wanted to shout this guy out bc 1) why not bring light to a lesser known fictional creature? and 2) I love how…realistic this is compared to other mythical beasts. some are crazy unrealistic with their ideas, like the many quadrupeds with an extra set of limbs for wings, or with weirdly human attributes, or that can breathe fire (which realistically is impossible for any animal), or that have some crazy lore to go along with them. this guy? this is just a guy. this is literally just a species of animal. that just so happens to not exist. but totally could exist. a large penguin with an orange breast and head crest? compared to a bird and mammal mashup like the gryphon?? this guy could just exist.
idk. thought that would be fun to share!
what do you mean being more active on Tumblr means I need to post more. bogus.

hmmmm fuck it. I have ten gazillion personal projects to work on and I’m gonna do my mythoscience one right now
send me a mythical creature (preferably underrated, but I’ll take any) in my asks and I’ll attempt to yap about my ideas for it scientifically (some of them I may be coming up with on the spot but I’ll try to put as much thought into every answer as possible
having thoughts I need to jot down. thinking about how the basilisk and cockatrice are basically the same critter and are both either interpreted as a snake or a weird freaky rooster.
thinking about adding them as separate critters in my project, but maybe they have a symbiotic relationship and are so frequently together that their stories have been intertwined in mythology? the basilisk would refer to a snake—and the cockatrice, a weird freaky (not) chicken. no idea what their symbiotic relationship would look like yet though. gonna look into different symbiotic relationships in nature !!!
