So @asongofwitchesandwilds sent me a link to this awesome post by @dungeonsdonuts, and I love talking about worldbuilding. So here are 10 random and not-really-plot-relevant facts about my homebrew D&D 5e campaign setting, Myset. 

Myset has three moons of varying sizes, with differing lengths of phase cycles

The southern continent, Astil, used to have more nations--over time, the Dazan Empire has spread and taken over the surrounding lands. It hasn’t conquered Zafror for two main reasons: one, it’s mostly desert, and so hard to invade; and two, Zafror is more a loose alliance of city states focused on oases that are linked by culture but aren’t really a true “nation.”

The border between the Deepwood and Efanor isn’t exact, and each map shows a slightly different one. It’s more defined by where there is less and less civilization, and more and more dangerous and dark creatures.

There is a massive network of caves and tunnels under most of the eastern continent leading into the Underdark--most of Myset’s Drow population lives there.

There is a certain merchant--Bilcorin Lokas Ummop Felben--who travels in a small wagon drawn by goats. He sells many things, all of them called “swords.” (which is an idea I got from a Tumblr post). His initials spell BLUF, which is emblazoned on said wagon in gold painted letters.

In one of the great treetop cities of Efanor, there dwells an elven sage renowned for her wisdom, influence, and generosity. Though when transcribed into Common the spelling of her name varies, peoples all over Myset honor the great Op’rah.

Horses are most common on the southern and eastern continents (Astil and Idica, respectively) than in the north or on the isles, though generations of breeding means that there are notable differences between breeds. Southern horses tend to be bred for speed and endurance over long distances, especially in the deserts, while horses in the east range from the mustangs of the plains to the hardy ponies of the mountains.

Airship trade and travel is becoming more and more common, as the technology has advanced greatly in the past century. (That is, the past century before the current campaign I’m running.) They fly through a combination of enchantment, alchemy, and engineering.

The Islands of Letacia started as a loose collection of pirate havens before evolving into a unified culture of thriving port cities. Sailing is still a huge part of life there, and there are still a fair number of current and former pirates in the area.

You might have a gift for the mystic arts, but you still have much to learn.
