Hailing as a singer, songwriter and producer based out of Sydney, myles. found himself drumming and singing in his families band gigging at local pubs and festivals around his hometown in his younger years, establishing quite the early love of music. Influenced through a variation of genres and artists, there’s nothing holding him back from spanning styles into one stand-out sound of his own, expressing himself through a range of different instruments and lyricism that continues to be ever-poignant. Sharing his newest single ‘Low’, myles. is showing he’s at his best yet and not slowing down anytime soon, solidifying his place as an exciting up-comer that continues to impress.

Ringing out with bright electric guitar plucks,’ Low’ immediately feels a little contrasting to its title, soaring in notes that are colourful and bubbly but reigning back in as the vastness of sound and few instrumentals seeps in an air of loneliness. A finger clicked steady beat adds a personal touch too, keeping things catchy but paired back, leaving the listener constantly bridged between a heartfelt intimacy and the urge to sway along if not emphatically sing too. With the choruses addition of some distant whirring synth, the track beautifully accomplishes a start of delicacy before building into something a little more, soon adding more snappy drum beats for the second verse’s padded out declaration of pain. A more forceful chorus also comes into play as further instrumentation joins together, still feeling tender but more vivacious in volume and layering, constantly teetering between pulling on your own woes and propelling you to move forward. These enriching tones are topped off by myles. vocal performance, hauntingly resonant in his impressive higher range and haunting emotionally evocative delivery, truly marking ’ Low’ as a song you won’t be able to get out your head or your heart for days to come.

Penning the grief of heartbreak, ‘Low’ finds itself at its weakest mentally as it attempts to process the loss of a deep love that felt like the one. With themes of mental health tied into its melancholic woes, ‘Low’ feels like a plea from someone wallowing in their isolation for a hand to hold, struggling to pull themselves out of the rut that they’ve been knocked down into. Lines like ‘I’ve been seeing you in daydreams… reminiscing on our memories’ almost feel positive, with the implication of daydreams stirring up a warmth and pleasure, but the topicality creeps into a negative like a sweeping bittersweet nostalgia pulls the rug out of the life that’s no longer a reality. A deep comparison and self-criticality also clouds the lyrical judgement, ‘Lately you’ve been doing so amazing, while I can’t seem to get myself to move’, showing they’re seemingly a little resentful of their lover moving on while they still yearn for them to return, finding themselves incapable of so much as the mundane when life feels bleak without their company. The simple chorus repetition of ‘I’ve been lonely, I’ve been low’ further exacerbates as such, with the protagonist incapable of complexity and resigning to a more fragile honesty in bluntness that can’t be ignored. So much of ‘Low’ is painfully raw, but myles. sound is one that wraps up the harder moments in blankets of vibrancy, like hints of hope glimmer through the more diary-like lyrical revelations for the listener to grip onto while they relate to every personal word.
