What are Everfree Hoppers? Everfree hoppers are singular individuals, each one with its own exclusive genetic code. This is because of the fact that hoppers lack the ability to reproduce, and thus do not pass on any genes. They are basically the outcome of bad magic.

Where do they come from? A hopper is created through the passing of magical abilities from one to another. All hoppers start out as regular people, normally those with an innocent or naive sense of mind, another hopper will offer the subject unlimited magic, if the subject accepts, they slowly become a hopper. Here’s the catch, the transformation must occur at the subjects own free will. No tricks, no loopholes, nothing. If they aren’t entirely on board, it doesn’t happen. The time it takes for a subject to change can vary from mere hours to a few weeks, depending on the magical strength of the outcome. The few key changes that occur include; change of hair/skin color, sharpening if teeth, drastic change in demeanor, and doubled pupils. The subject becomes an apprentice, and the hopper who hanged them becomes the mentor.

What powers do hoppers have? This can vary with each individual, most hoppers are able to achieve just about whatever they please with their magic, but have a certain field they excel in, i.e. Mind control, shape shifting, thought reading, etc. But all hoppers are granted with the same power that gives them their name; the ability to hop from dimension to dimension at any given time.

Diet? Hoppers can eat literally anything. And will, but it takes a lot of energy to keep all that magic running, so they need to have a main food source. Since hoppers are technically non-existant, it makes sense that they would feed off something non-tangible, and they do, any idea, anything that you can’t touch, such as names, emotions, concepts or sleep, is a food source to a hopper.

How to identify one. Since every hopper is unique, it’s very hard to set specific parameters as to the species, luckily, there are a few telltale signs.

Unusually colored hair and skin: Normally with some relation on the color wheel. (Primary, analogous, triadic, etc.)

Patterns painted on the skin: Hoppers have only one skin color, but they alway tend to paint their body, limbs and faces with brightly colored patterns. A hopper will never, ever change the patterns on their skin, they will repaint them, but never change them.

Bits and Bobs: One noticeable feature of the hopper is that they tend to have mix-matched appendages, such as ears, wings, horns, or tails, that don’t match, and appear to be from other species. Because they are. Hoppers will grow a new appendage for every species they eradicate. For example; if a hopper causes the extinction of a certain type of dragon, they will grow a wing, tail, or horn replicating that of the dragon. The reason behind this is unknown.

Unfortunately, all of these distinct features can be hidden with a simple shape shifting spell, except for one.

Double-Pupiled Eyes: From the second a hopper gains it’s magical abilities, their pupils split in two, leaving them with double-pupiled eyes. This is the signature feature of a hopper, and cannot be hidden with any form of magic or shape shifting.

Side Notes -Despite their sometimes genocidal tendencies, hoppers alway seem to look out for their own. They form strong bonds with each other, and seem to trusty care about the welfare of the ones they care for.

-Everfree hoppers tend to live about 100-300 years. The oldest is estimated to have lived over a thousand. The older a hopper becomes, the more crazy they get.

-Hoppers have the weirdest motives. That’s all that needs saying.

-The only way to trap a hopper is in a vacuum. They have to use all of their magic keeping themselves alive and are therefore rendered harmless.
