thinking about what if lace's penchant for laughter is like. something 'biologically' ingrained into her. or if not biologically, then at the very least psychologically. a habit she picked up, if not something she was 'born' with.
i think about if GMS forbade her from expressing herself in any other meaningful way. she can not cry. she can not fly into a rage. she feels the emotions, certainly, but she's putting every shaped peg in the same hole. put on the mask, look pretty, squint your eyes and laugh. what good is a child who does not light up the room? what good is a daughter who throws tantrums?
i've been thinking a lot about the whole 'child spun mad' thing again. to me, i don't think lace was 'spun mad' with intention. i think she's kind of been driven to a state where even GMS can look at her little dolly and go "ohh. hm. well she's not normal." but in whatever way she wasn't normal, it didn't interfere with who lace was created to be, and therefore it was better to leave well enough alone.
