Don't chase the rabbit
The girls come and go just as Jaeplans for them to (though some return for a round two), but for some reasonāhe stays. Weeks, months go by, and heexpects the male to have already changed bars to avoid the competition, but hedoesnāt. He continues to come every week, continues to meet up with Jae andspend his evening with him, sometimes forgetting the sole reason they even showup to the club, and it makes the young adult wonder⦠Is this what having a realfriend felt like? He never wouldāve imagined himself finding a friend in theclub out of all places, maybe in his gang, but that was just itāhe was a breakfrom the same faces he had to be with every day, a breath of fresh air once ortwice a week.
It gets to the point where Jae looks forward to every Tuesday (when had theygiven a specific day to meeting each otherā?), and he doesnāt notice howcomfortable he is around the older male, how heās almost a completely differentperson compared to always having to put on a tough and professional face aroundthe members of Illicit. He can be himself for onceāhis⦠dumb and idiotic self.Ā
āIāIāve totally gotten more game than you have!ā Thereās a shake of the headfollowed by a few chuckles from the other which only lead to Jae feeling theneed to further argue his side, āIf you take away the few years that you haveagainst me, then I have loads more experience than you.ā And his statementearns a look of offense and completely disbeliefāwell that was a good enoughreaction to show that Jae had won, or at least in his eyes he had. He can onlystart laughing afterwards, bringing a hand up to give a pat or two to the maleāsback in hopes that maybe itād help his pride some.
His hand, of course, gets shrugged off, and thereās only little grumbles ofĀ āyou little shitā coming from the older of the two which bring about small bouts of laughter from Jaeā and heās happy. Happy of this one true friend heās managed to find, so happy that he finds himself unintentionally justā¦looking at him with a smile on his face. It isnāt until he receives a comment,Ā āI know Iām nice to look at, but staring isnāt too polite,ā that he jumps out of his blanking out, eyes blinking then rolling in complete doubt,Ā āOh please, Iām not that desperate.ā But the smile still lingers, it stays and keeps its spot on his lips throughout the evening. Throughout all the nights that Jae spends with him.
