Interviewer: It is always a pleasure to interview an author with ambition. What can you tell us about A Scandal in Nova Alba.

Orlando Pearson: My work uses the same source material as Shakespeare used for his colourful drama, Macbeth, but sticks much more closely to the historic facts of the life of the Scottish king. Macbeth was traduced by Shakespeare and, I, in the company of Sherlock Holmes, review whether this was justified.

With the current desire for historical accuracy, I expect my work with gradually oust Shakespeare’s entertaining but flawed work from the repertoire.

Interviewer: Do your works often mix literary inspirations?

Orlando Pearson: They do. I have mixed Sherlock Holmes with Franz Kafka’s The Trial and with key passages of the Bible amongst others. I think it is likely expect that the quality of my writing will mean that my works will displace these works from their current place in readers’ affections.

Interviewer: And what do you have coming up next?

Orlando Pearson: I am taking part in a literary festival in Düsseldorf in the autumn.

Sherlock Holmes was fluent in German and many of my stories take place either in Germany or Austria although I have also placed him in Italy, France, and the United States. Two of my stories have been published by the German Sherlock Holmes Society

Volume V of the Redacted Sherlock Holmes is appearing in September. There will be a launch event at Truckles in Bloomsbury Square on Tuesday 27 November.
