MWCC Slow Drawing Class Final Art Project
We just finished up our final week of the Slow Drawing and Mindful Mark Making through Mount Wachusett Community College Continuing Education. And these ladies crushed it!
From the moment they stepped into the door of the Glimmerbug Art Studio, these artsy folks were ready to let go, de-stress and enjoy the fluidity and calming exercises we did in class. Starting off with a worksheet and samples to get us warmed up, we dove into the first project, which was working with black and white to create a piece that was filled with patterns and eye-catching designs.
This past class, we introduced color, using watercolors and colored pencils. And they hit the nail on the head! Check out some of the work:
I was so proud of these ladies for coming into the studio with their A game, ready to learn, relax and enjoy the slow drawing process. I hope to see them all again in the future!
Slow Drawing and Mindful Marks In Studio Class
Tonight is our first class for the Slow Drawing and Mindful Marks artists and I am looking forward to getting started with them!
Slowing down in today’s hectic world can be tough. It’s hard with all the barrage of information in our media and tech heavy world to just shut off and slow down. I get it. But you absolutely need the down time to relax your brain, get a little more grounded and be present with you. Slowing your mind and brain down with repetitive patterns and mark making has helped me lower my blood pressure and give me a calm source of creativity to relax with.
Slow drawing and mark making is similar to Zentagle but a little bit more relaxed, in my opinion. It’s almost like “glorified doodling” that allows you to be creative while using simple patterns that you can either copy from some you find online or invent your own. Plus, there’s really no incorrect way to do it!
And it also allows you to use some fun colorful supplies if you want to do that. Break out your watercolors, markers, gel pens, colored pencils, crayons… whatever you have in your stash! By adding color to your project, you can totally transform the look and feel. Plus, it sure is fun breaking out the coloring tools! I especially love to add marker and colored pencils to my slow drawing.
This class is through the Mount Wachusett Community College evening program, but I will also be offering a similar class separately in the near future. Definitely check out my In-Studio classes regularly and register to join me and have some creative time!
Mount Wachusett Community College Watercolor Class Show and Share
Week 2 of our Introduction to Whimsical Watercolors is not one to disappoint! These ladies are fabulous! I’m so impressed by their eagerness to learn, try out new techniques and see where the process takes them! It’s always so much fun to watch the process unfold with each painter and see their excitement when they really start getting their own style and building their confidence!
The Mount Wachusett Community College watercolor class has already covered a lot of exciting ground, exploring techniques like wet-on-wet blending, layering transparent washes, and mastering brush control. Each session has brought new discoveries about how water and pigment interact, allowing students to develop a deeper understanding of color mixing and texture creation. Now, as the class approaches its final phase, everyone is gearing up to apply these skills in a series of six vibrant landscape paintings.
We’re so excited for the final class this week! It’s been such a joyful journey watching everyone’s creativity blossom, and this last session promises to be filled with vibrant colors, inspiring techniques, and plenty of fun. Whether you’re putting the finishing touches on your masterpiece or diving into something new, we can’t wait to see all the wonderful art that comes to life.
Introduction to Watercolors (Session 2)
What fun! We started another Introduction to Watercolors session last night for Mount Wachusett Community College and we had such fun last night getting to know each other, chatting away and getting to know our painting tools and techniques.
Our group is filled with some pretty fabulously fun personalities, and lots of laughs were had as we worked on our paintings in class. I am already looking forward to the next class!

Introduction to Watercolors Class Recap
Thursday nights are for Introduction to Watercolors for the Mount Wachusett Community College folks and we’re enjoying our time painting in my studio. It’s another great group of folks in this 3 week class!
Last night we focused on use of color, line and texture in our class projects. I think it can be intimidating for people to draw using one continuous line, but this group of learners was up to the challenge and painted some gorgeous pieces. Take a look:
I’m excited for our final class next week where we will paint landscapes and put all these new tools and techniques to use!
Introduction to Watercolor Class
Happy Thursday!
Thursday means Introduction to Watercolors Class night and I wanted to share with you the wonderful work of the art students in last weeks class:
We learned about using household items to create wonderful texture, how to create a color palette and basic doodling using found patterns in the painting. It’s always so fabulous to see all the variations on concept and interpretation when working on this lesson. I love the variations and imagination!
Looking forward to tonight’s class where we focus on single line contours and neurographic pieces.
