I'm still thinking about a conversation I had with my friend recently.
I said to her, "I can't wait until I'm not broke so I can pay for you to tattoo me."
And she replied, "We can do a trade!"
"What am I going to give you?" I mused. "A poem? I don't make any like, actually tangible art."
And I've been utterly stuck on that thought since. I've never been much of a visual artist. I'm not crafty at all. The only thing I create that really uses my hands is music, when I play an instrument. Even that I don't do very well.
Almost all of my creativity is cerebral, experiential, and/or intangible. Writing, music, performance, even my work as a director. And it's why I've always wanted to paint, to make candles or jewelry, or sew maybe, but idk! It's like whatever part of my brain that's in charge of motor control really did not develop and whenever I do those things, I'm passable at best.
But the cloud of abstraction that is stringing together a stanza? Hell yeah. I live in that cloud, baby. It's just a shame it's not the sort of thing most people want to hang on their walls or wear on their body.
