After that night, Carrie and David met up here and there. Their next encounter had been just a few days later in a street leading from the main road. She was kinda embarrassed to think about how happy she had been to see a friendly face after another rough day at school. It had been a welcome surprise.
It became a regular occurrence without them even discussing when they would next meet. He always seemed to find her no matter where she was. Always at night, too. However, that didn’t strike her as odd. Not that she had asked, but she assumed he worked somewhere during the day and didn’t have time to see her then. Or he had other matters and friends to attend to. That made sense as well.
Finally, the night of her senior prom arrived and the young girl was more excited than she had ever been in her life! She had informed David of the event, saying that she wouldn’t be around that night and that he didn’t need to wait around. Despite the slightly bizarre friendship the unlikely duo had formed, she hadn’t told him much about the night. It would just be dumb high school stuff to him, right? Not really something a teenage girl spoke to a grown man about. Maybe she’d tell him how it went if he expressed interest. Hopefully, she would have a good story to share.
With a smile, the blonde carefully tucks her curled hair into place. It had taken her ages to figure out that curling iron! Pleased with the result, she ignores her mother’s pleas to stay and waits for Tommy Ross to pick her up. She had a really good feeling about tonight!
The inferno engulfing Ewen High School spread out across the grounds, destroying everything it touched while several firetrucks attempted to douse the wreck. The sound of sirens and screaming blended into one, creating a horrific noise that would forever be etched into the minds of Chamberlain locals.
As the police tried to regain some sense of order, a crew of paramedics crowded around the sole survivors of the massacre. It was unclear of what had caused such a calamity and those who had witnessed whatever had occurred in the gymnasium were in too much of a state to disclose any information.
Unbeknownst to the emergency services, the one responsible was already at a gas station several streets over. She stands off against a car that was revving its engine. Inside were Chris Hargensen and Billy Nolan; the ones who had done this to her.
Mind in shambles, emotions struggling to break through and piece together, she’s ready for their advance. Now she was the one in control and nobody would be able to stop her ever again. Power coursing through her body, the car is halted with a single raise of the hand. Billy smashes his face into the steering wheel. Instantly dead.
Carrie makes quick work of Chris, lifting the vehicle into the air before throwing it into the gas pumps. The explosion adds to the ongoing chaos, but she doesn’t flinch. She continues to send out her message to everyone, forcing their minds to repeat a single name;
Let them remember her name.
