I’ll be real with you all, I am growing increasingly certain that the characters of Volescu and Overse will not be in the Murderbot tv show.
And yes that would be a bummer, but from a storytelling point of view it’s the smartest decision to cut both their roles. It’s all about economy of storytelling. Let me explain:
Aside from getting rescued at the beginning, Volescu doesn’t do much afterwards in ASR. His lines can easily be given to someone else. And then he retires and is not seen for the rest of the series. I’m just not sure that it would be good for the tv show to introduce too many characters for the viewers to remember only to then have the characters fade away, you know?
Instead I think that the character rescued alongside Dr. Bharadwaj at the beginning will be Arada. Then MB can ask her about her home life, and she’ll tell us all about Overse.
Of course for that switch to work, Overse also needs to not be on planet with the team. But that’s fine because her own lines in ASR can also be given to other people, and then this incident can also be used as fodder for both her and Arada’s characterization if there are more seasons of the show.
Maybe Arada’s near death experience is motivation for her learning how to shoot firearms. Maybe the fact that she almost died while Overse wasn’t there is motivation for Overse to stick with her like glue through Network Effect. Etc.
Anyway I just hope that if this is indeed what happens, I won’t have to wade through a million posts complaining about it on social media calling the showrunners homophobic or what the shit 🫠 (who am I kidding I know I will)
