What is your average length / word count regarding roleplay replies? does the length of your partnerās replies matter or is important to you?
Honestly, I tend to get overly verbose and tend to escalate replies larger and larger and larger as they go back and forth XD Iām the type that tends to be very thorough and really chew the scene rather than pare things down to be as concise as one might in a more thoroughly edited work. For this kind of freestyle roleplay itās important to me to cover all the ground of the things that my muse feels, thinks, sees and does, and to react properly to all the stimulus my partnerās given me.
So often Iāll end up matching or up the size of a post just because iām trying to cover everything, but I wouldnāt say itās especially important that they do the same; if someoneās able to give a meaningful, provocative response in far fewer words, itās just as well as something longer; I just tend to err on the latter side myself.
What subjects / genres do you find yourself becoming the most passionate about when youāre writing?
I like really getting into the mindset of the characters I write, and I find when Iām able to catch onto things that really resonate with them; strong central themes of their lives, things that bother them specifically, running trends of their behaviour, I find I get really thorough in exploring those sides of the characters. I like to get to those key facets of their personality or their history and the way they do things.
As for likeĀ āgenresā I canāt really say for sure, Iām a fan of a variety of different genres and presentations, but I think stepping back a bit for genre the stories and characters I appreciate most, and the ones that encourage me to write about or for are those that are really trying to explore a deeper meaning and connection between characters and events, where they have a natural relation to each other rather than serving as window dressing for a plot structure.
Are there any writing habits others may have that you find frustrating or exhausting?
I canāt really say there are any things especially that arenāt already considered general faux-pas, I feel like Iām pretty tolerant of various different styles? OrĀ
If thereās anything Iād say itād be like, secretive writing. Like if youāre writing around things and trying to withhold them from your partner to surprise them or what not; I think in this style of collaborative writing it can be fun to have secrets between your characters that you need to explore, but if thereās ever like, unsaid things beneath the surface of posts that arenāt really mutually understood it can be a bit annoying to work with.
Itās strange because you just canāt really accurately write a character not knowing something believably if you donāt know what it is yourself; you donāt have anything to act on so youāre just waiting for the other person to dangle hooks out to you rather than being able to be proactive.
So thatās what I think Iād say. Itās great to have in character secrets and misunderstandings, but I think itās important to use context, setting, the rest of the post to establish and key in to those things and make sure youāre writing cooperativelyĀ instead of competitively.
