So apparently, there is this idea that wanting multiple degrees is just crazy. Why? Why is it wrong to want to develop multiple skills instead of just one? I don't want to be stuck the rest of my life behind a computer and getting lost in the repetitive motion of doing the same thing, day in and day out.
To be fair, I grew up in a not so stable environment. My father, God knows I love him, was, well is, an alcoholic. He couldn't seem to stay put in any kind of job, and mom wasn't any better. After a while my mom decided that she wanted a degree in Graphic Design. Which is fine, but she couldn't seem to find a decent paying position with the degree that she had. I thought that was completely unfair. So.... After lots of life mumbo jumbo, and the time had come for me to finally take the plunge, I found myself at SCC. I first started with an AAS in Dance Technology. Love this degree. I can stage manage, dance, run lights, design lights, the list gets longer by the minute. Not far into the degree I decided going to film would be a good move as well. Since a lot of my classes coincided with the film degree flow. One film track wasn't going to do though. I wanted two. Film Production and Editing. Why? Because in the film world, there are breaks and where there are breaks, there is break in monetary resources. That my friends, is not what I desire. I don't think any one does, but I vowed that I would not be like my parents.
Don't get me wrong, I love my mom and dad. My mother was my best friend, sister, soul mate if you will, before she passed away. My dad, still alive, not so much my best friend, but I love him all the same. He is a walking talking library of historical knowledge. The man is quite literally a genius, socially inept, but a genius. But growing up with them helped me determine what patterns I shouldn't fall into and life choices to avoid. I am thankful for that. Truly.
So, back to the degrees. I have been at SCC for five years and have loved every minute of it. I am almost done with all three degrees, buuuttt what about a bachelors? If I do so happen want to continue my education I do need a way to transfer. So after a conversation with my trusted, amazing dance advisor, she and I decided that, for one more semester, I can have an Associate in Arts in Dance. For one more semester I can have all the classes I need to transfer to a university if I so choose. Not a terrible idea.
So, am I crazy or just very ambitious?
