FINALLY I managed to install minecraft on freebsd
the official launcher doesn't have a freebsd version, I can't login with microsoft on prism launcher, and the multimc package in the ports collection is an old version, I can't login on that one because it's from before the switch to microsoft accounts and it wants to connect to the old mojang servers
I had to compile the latest version of multimc, then get it to find lwjgl, but now It Works
A note on mod installation that I probably should have mentioned sooner.
On the official Noticeably Beta 1.8 download page I gave instructions for installing it on Betacraft v1, but MultiMC would work perfectly fine as well, if you like MultiMC. I spend very little time there because I greatly prefer Betacraft 1.0 over MultiMC.
There are actually more tutorials for installing jar mods with MultiMC than there are for installing mods in Betacraft that aren't built into the launcher repo list. I don't want to tread old ground with instructions that I rarely personally follow, but you'll have the info if you look it up. I just use Betacraft because I find it much more familiar and me using it is easier. Every time I updated Monty Cabin I installed those historic NBODE versions to Betacraft and played with my friend using Betacraft.
Ever since I found this in December 2024, I've had way less of a headache playing modpacks, MultiMC is too good
ok so i'm looking into ways to play minecraft without supporting microsoft (/escaping microsoft being shitty and glitchy)
looking at the multiMC website and the Prism Launcher website and mainly getting confused because i am very not a computer person
can anyone explain in simple terms what these programs do and if either would allow me to disconnect my minecraft account from microsoft and play offline??

Background Cat (MultiMC)
Would they be a good magical girl?
Yes
No
Depends
I don't know them but they look like they'd be a good magical girl
I don't know them, but they don't look like they'd be a good magical girl
Propaganda:
Controls multiple modded minecraft instances, instantiates your JVMs, is cat. Magic is the only word that could explain it
Took me three hours, but I finally got the game to look like I wanted
today in modded minecraft: multimc is trying to launch a modpack my friend made. i am getting an error that only pertains to when you're connecting to internet. there is no server for this modpack. the game won't even start. what is fucking happening
