Fingers played absent-mindedly with his pendant as Mika listened to the conversations between the different members of Bull’s Chargers, taking a sip from his drink.
A little smile had been at the corner of his lips all along, but he had masked the sadness that bubbled in his chest, the longing. When Iron Bull and Mika left the Chargers, it was both all too soon, and a relief.
“You have good people with you, Bull.” Mika commented, eyes on the tavern, but gaze a little distant. “They are a bit like a family, aren’t they?” He added, softer, almost not purposefully.
It was well known by now, that the Herald came from afar, that he could not return there for now. Less known was the exact life he had before; but between the comments he had made here and there, and the little gossips; people knew their Herald had a family.
Rare were those that had caught him when it was obvious how much he missed them. However, Iron Bull was one of the few friends Mika felt he was making, and it meant it was harder to mask his longing in front of him.
Maybe it had to do with the knowledge, deep in his mind, that this man was trained to read people, and so, like with Leliana, Mika didn’t feel like going out of his way to mask himself even more.
He was not Allen, he didn’t have that much skill in masks. His were enough to fool most people; but once you really get to know Mika, or knew how to really read people, Mika was left with hiding the worst of his feelings; and hope what still showed was not too much.
