Are Mullenweg, Rowling, and Musk in a dare war 🔫
Tumblr 打算要支援 ActivityPub
Tumblr 現在的老大 Matt Mullenweg 在 Twitter 上提到了 Tumblr 打算要支援 ActivityPub 的消息: We are mostly dealing with the waves of new users right now and keeping everything scaling but interop and activitypub are ASAP. — Matt Mullenweg (@photomatt) November 21, 2022 如果支援的話,對於 ActivityPub 這個圈子會是個大消息,等於是有個大平台跳進去支援…

Six years after Yahoo purchased Tumblr for north of $1 billion, its parent corporation is selling the once-dominant blogging platform. WordPress owner Automattic Inc. has agreed to take the service off of Verizon’s hands. Terms of the deal are undisclosed, but the number is “nominal,” compared to i…
I knew about this for a while, but Tumblr just officially announced it today. I was waiting to see if them being acquired by Wordpress would yield a rollback of the guidelines Verizon implemented when they bought Yahoo. Granted Mullenweg literally said the ban would stay about a month back. But i guess I was just hoping for Tumblr’s sake that it would be flipped around. Now that I see the updated term of service, it doesn’t appear as if that it the case. Which sort of surprises me yet doesn’t at the same time, if that makes sense.
Like on one hand, Wordpress is the place a bunch of people from Tumblr moved to when “female-presenting nipple” was banned as their platform became the more open-minded of the two. So I can see Automattic wanting to keep Wordpress their flagship of sorts. But on the other hand, Tumblr started out as a place just for adults and thus when they banned various kinds of adult content, traffic sunk. So I’d think they would want to try and bring traffic back up since they bought it. The easiest would be to nuke the more restrictive guidelines Verizon enacted, along with the automatic content detector which missed a lot of nudity/porn anyway while at the same time flagging content that shouldn’t have been hit. As is the nature of anything automated.
(As a reminder, they claimed it was to combat child porn even though that obviously was never allowed to begin with. :P So in other words: It was to please the app store.)
Of course it’s still early and all so there’s much time for them to change their mind. I just figured they would tackle the most obvious things that degraded traffic to begin with. Unless they planned on buying Tumblr to eliminate competition. Like let Tumblr go downhill further for a while, then migrate everyone to Wordpress in a “merge” of platforms or whatnot.
So what do you think of this? Thanks for reading and have a good one!
Why Matt Mullenweg went to warfare over WordPress
Right now, I’m speaking with Matt Mullenweg, the founder and CEO of Automattic, the mother or father firm of WordPress.com, Tumblr, and a complete host of different merchandise like the brand new cross-platform messaging service Beeper. That is Matt’s third time on Decoder; again in 2022, we had him on twice, first to speak about Automattic and WordPress broadly after which to speak about Tumblr…

Every Time I Think Things Are Calming Down, A Rich Asshole Shows Up To Ruin Something
Somehow, when I wasn't looking, another rich asshole showed up and started ruining things even more that I thought. I knew Matt Mullenweg, owner of Automattic, was shitty for trying to sell user data to plagiarism machine companies, but it gets worse!
Every time I think the internet is going to calm down and I can maybe figure out some kind of plan for what I’m going to do once I’ve gotten enough sleep for complex thought and long-term planning, a new bit of bullshit breaks. To be completely honest, I figured that the guy running Automattic, that owns WordPress .com and Tumblr, and who also runs the WordPress Foundation (which owns and…
