I have a number of questions about the mulefa world. First, are the Tualapi intelligent? It's never fully made clear, it seems like they might be but IDK. Secondly, does the Authority have any hold there? Because we're told that in all worlds the Authority has hold, save Lord Asriel's Republic, which was supposedly uninhabited prior to his coming. But what about the Mulefa world?
And are there other cultures than the one Mary met? Like, there clearly are numerous tribes working the seedpod tree groves. But they all seem really low-tech, and certainly don't seem like they travel far. Are there other mulefa on other continents? I think.I speculated about it in the past, I certainly tried to consider other methods for cracking the seedpods and maybe variants of the trees themselves that give different advantages. But nothing clear seems to come from the book.
The thing is, the mulefa world is clearly intended to be a Garden of Eden: an infinitely pleasant world, full of greenery and simple creatures who are without the complexities of modern society. However, that view seems like it'll play right back into the idea of the loss of innocence as a bad thing, which Pullman is supposedly fighting against. So I don't know, it just seems odd.
I do realize that my odd idea of using seedpods of a slightly different kind to help with swimming likely won't work, because the water pressure needs to be particularly strong to actually help crack the seedpods.
