I feel like if Tomoe/Nanami is changing, I’m going to lose my interest a bit on the manga. To me, they’re best together in their own respective form.
Throughout the chapters it has been emphasized quiet a few times that a human-youkai relationship is not possible (or something like it is a taboo for a different beings to be together in a relationship). Tomoe is so caught up with the idea, that I have yet to see he comes to love himself, a fox, that loves a human girl. I have no problem at all with Nanami because she’s more accepting and appreciating of who Tomoe is. In fact, Nanami loves Tomoe for who he is.
If it’s really impossible, Himemiko and Kotarou relationship should have failed long time ago. Kurama and Ami’s storyline wouldn’t have a start at all. Read what Ami told Kurama after he saved her.

Mizuki and Unari wouldn’t have met and felt strongly about each other. Okunishi would have given Nanami a strong warning that it will not end well. And of all people, Mikage would never allow that to happen again with Tomoe.
Nanami has had a crazy double life. And she has been good in adapting and living with it. Despite all that, she is still able to be true to herself, to everyone, despite them being a spirit, a youkai, a god, or a human. I really hope to see Tomoe becomes something like that. Not exactly like Nanami, but he can share the same values as what Nanami has. You may have different personalities but what drives a relationship is when, both have the same understanding and values for the things around them. That’s how a relationship becomes stronger. Even if he changes to human and is still only able to see Nanami, he will have troubles dealing with unforseen circumstances. Esp when he is not a youkai anymore. That’s why, it is important for Tomoe to grow past of what he thinks he couldn’t do. To not let the history of Lord Murasaki happens to him.
So you see why I am keen on both them just stay as a human and youkai? Let say if that’s how the manga it’s going to end, then it really fulfills the main theme that’s being presented in the manga.
Love belongs to all being regardless of who they are and what they are. It shouldn’t be restricted to one form. It is a universal feeling where there is no right and wrong in experiencing it. It is just a matter of how you are going to embrace it in your life.
