âOh, Killian,â breathed Emma, as they entered The Melting Pot fondue restaurant the following evening. âThis is wonderful! Iâve never been to a fondue restaurant!â
âNeither have I,â he replied. âBut Liam and Elsa have one somewhat close to them in Bedford and they love it, so I thought it would be a nice place to bring you for our special date.â He lifted her hand and brushed her knuckles with his lips, smiling gently at her.
âIâm sure itâll be wonderful.â She returned his smile before he approached the host stand and gave his name for their reservation.
âAh, yes, sir,â the hostess replied. âEverything has been arranged to your specifications, Mr. Jones. Please follow me.â
Emmaâs eyebrows nearly hit her hairline at her words and she wondered exactly what her boyfriend had planned for the evening.
Once they were seated, their server approached with a bottle of champagne and poured them both a glass. Since they were both new to the fondue experience, he explained everything about the 4 course celebration they were about to enjoy.Â
A decadent cheese fondue with artisan breads, fresh fruit and seasonal veggies to dip, followed by their choice of salads, then they would choose a single cooking style - Coq Au Vin, Court Boullion, Mojo, Traditional Oil, or Grill - and their individual entrees. Finally, the dessert course featured rich chocolate fondue with various sweet treats and fresh fruit for dipping. Emmaâs mouth watered just listening to him.
They chose Classic Alpine cheese fondue - a delicious mixture of gruyère, raclette, and fontina cheeses, mixed with white wine, garlic, and nutmeg. For their salads, Killian chose a classic Caesar, while Emma chose the California, with mixed greens, candied pecans, gorgonzola, tomatoes, and raspberry walnut vinaigrette. They chose the Court Bouillon cooking style since it paired well with any entree, then for the main course, they both created their own. Killian had sesame crusted Ahi tuna, Atlantic Salmon, and Shrimp, while Emma enjoyed the herbed chicken breast, teriyaki steak, and petite filet. Finally, for the chocolate fondue course, Yin and Yang, because in Killianâs words, Iâm dark, youâre light, and we pair perfectly together. His waggling eyebrows when he said it made her cheeks heat as she remembered his words from the night before after theyâd gone to bed.
She laid perfectly content and sated, spooned against Killian when he nuzzled behind her ear and placed a gentle kiss on her neck. âI love you so much, Emma. Youâre the perfect woman for me and I never want to let you go.â
She turned in his arms and faced him, running her fingertips along the side of his beloved face. âI love you, too, Killian. I wish we had more time together before we have to leave.â
He looked like he was about to speak again, but something stopped him. Instead, he kissed her and then rolled on his back, drawing her close to him so that her head lay on his shoulder, his arm around her, and his other hand on top of hers where it lay over his heart.Â
It was only minutes later they were both sound asleep.
âYes, we do,â she replied, before giving him a kiss. She speared a strawberry and dipped it into the dark chocolate before bringing it to his mouth.
âMmmmm,â he said, never breaking eye contact with her as he enjoyed the morsel.
Shivers cascaded down her spine at the heated look in his eyes. She couldnât look away from him, but could just perceive in her periphery his spearing something else from the dessert platter and bringing it up toward her.
Something flashed in the corner of her eyes and she finally glanced away at the fork that had just entered her line of sight. Dangling at the end was a huge, sparkling, round diamond ring.
Emma gasped. âKillian!â
âEmma,â he began, taking the ring off the fork and holding it in his hand, âsince the moment I first saw you on the airplane in Boston, I thought you were the most beautiful woman in the world and at the time, I wanted nothing more than your phone number and permission to contact you again after going our separate ways. You graciously gave me both, and the last four and a half months have been the happiest of my life as Iâve gotten to know you and Henry and fallen in love with you. I love you more than life, Emma and now, I want nothing more than to make you happy for the rest of our days. Would you do me the greatest honor and be my wife?â
A tear rolled down her cheek and her heart fluttered within her as she lifted her hands to cup his beloved face. âYes,â she whispered before drawing him to her for a tender yet passionate kiss. She never thought she would have this. A good man who loved her with everything that was in him, and loved her son as his own. When they parted, Killian slipped the ring on her finger, both of them beaming. Cheers broke out from around them as their server and other employees, as well as fellow diners, congratulated them on their engagement.
Their server handed Killianâs phone to him as he turned slightly unsure eyes on her. âI hope you donât mind, but if you do, I can delete it, I just thought it would be somethingâŚâ he rambled before she stopped him with another kiss, knowing exactly what he was trying to say.
âNo, I donât mind,â she assured him. âMary Margaret and Elsa will certainly want to see it.âÂ
Emma snuggled into his side, as he held her tightly against him, and took her own bite of a rice krispy treat dipped in the decadent chocolate fondue. They took turns enjoying the fruit and other culinary confections dipped in the luscious and delicious chocolate. All too quickly, their platter was empty and Killian was paying for their meal.
âIâve had all this arranged since before everyone got here,â he explained. âThe manager and our server were most accommodating with everything I wanted to do, so this tip is going to reflect that.â
Emma glanced at the ticket and saw how much he was leaving them. She couldnât hide the small gasp that escaped her lips before she spoke. âWeâre going to be their favorite customers after that,â she commented, a small smile touching her lips.Â
âYou may be right,â Killian conceded with a nod at the host as he opened the door for her. âBut once weâre married, this will be our celebration restaurant.â
Emma grinned. âSounds good to me!â
As they exited the restaurant into the gloaming of early evening, Emmaâs head resting on his shoulder, Killian lifted a thankful prayer to God for the gift of the wonderful woman at his side and the very best Christmas ever.

âDaaaaaviiiiiiiiid,â Emma hollered up the stairs. âIf you donât get the laundry down here, right now, youâll have nothing clean for the trip to Pigeon Forge. And that goes for you too, Henry! Five minutes!â
Emma was still sorting her laundry when David came in carrying a laundry basket, with a smaller one perched precariously on top, Henry following along behind him.
âSorry,â he apologized. âWe were still working on getting his room cleaned upâŚâ
âThat should have been finished yesterday,â Emma interrupted, rolling her eyes.
Davidâs smirk at her was indulgent. âCut the kid some slack, Emma. Heâs excited. Itâs not everyday that a boy turns four and gets to celebrate in a town like Pigeon Forge.â
âI know,â she replied. âBut I donât have to cut you any slack.â
âUnwind yourself, Sis,â he said, casually. âThe laundry is here and itâll all get done today. Weâll get packed tonight and leave in the morning.â
âYeah, says the man who isnât responsible for the packing,â Emma mumbled.
âI may not be responsible for the packing,â he reminded her, âbut I am responsible for keeping my nephew out of your hair today, so thatâs what Iâm going to do. Weâre heading out to breakfast, then going over to the estate for the day until Mary Margaret is done with school. We should all be home about four.âÂ
âSounds good. Yâall have fun today,â she said, smiling as David lifted Henry onto his hip and ruffled his hair. She went over and kissed her son on the cheek. âYou obey Uncle David, ok, Henry?â
âYes, Maâam,â he replied.
She watched as they left the laundry room, David tickling Henryâs tummy and sending him into a conniption of giggles, before turning back to her own duties for the day. Thankfully, she was only responsible for getting herself and Henry packed for this most anticipated trip, or she thought she might be pulling her hair out. And she certainly didnât want to do that, since Killian often told her that his favorite feature on her was her long golden hair.
Emma sighed contentedly as thoughts of her long distance boyfriend filled her mind. It had been over four months since they met on that flight from Boston to Asheville, and she had to admit, they had been the happiest four months of her life.
When theyâd parted ways at the airport - Killian to drive home to Pigeon Forge, Emma and Henry being picked up by David, Killian had brushed her knuckles with his lips, making her heart flutter and melt at the same time. David, who was usually very laid back, still managed to put on the stern and protective older brother routine, until Killian assuaged his concerns with his easy charm. Heâd shaken Davidâs hand like they were old friends and not brand new acquaintances.Â
She hadnât even gotten herself and Henry unpacked completely before Killian was Facetiming her and showing her around his home - an honest to God log cabin on the side of a mountain.
In the ensuing months, they texted every day and Facetimed every week, getting to know each other over the miles and falling in love with no effort at all. Theyâd introduced each other to the rest of their families, and they were all very much looking forward to meeting in person for the first time when they converged on Killianâs home for the highly anticipated vacation and birthday celebration. When Emma and Mary Margaret had met Killianâs sister-in-law, Elsa over Facetime, theyâd really hit it off and Little Liam and Henry became the best of friends in no time flat.
Not to mention the bromance between David and Killian. David was as excited as she and Henry were, not only for a well deserved getaway with the family, but also to see his bro in person again. The siblingsâ jobs at the Biltmore Estate - David as Head of Security and Emma as Events Supervisor - were very enjoyable and fulfilling, but high stress as well, and they were really looking forward to the time off. Once they added Killianâs older brother Liam to the mix, Emma was sure the bromance would expand even more.Â
In fact, the relationships between the extended family members were such that Killian was opening his home to them all, the concern heâd mentioned on the plane about needing âbreathing roomâ now completely assuaged.
Emma could feel the heat rising to her cheeks as she thought about the discussion she and Killian had via Facetime a week ago concerning the sleeping arrangements.
âI have three bedrooms and a loft with bunk beds. Little Liam is finally big enough to sleep on the top bunk and Henry can sleep on the bottom.â
Emma bit her bottom lip as Killian rubbed behind his ear. The adorable tell made Emmaâs heart beat double time as she imagined what he might be about to propose.
âLiam and Elsa can have their regular room, with David and Mary Margaret in the third bedroom.â His gaze met hers and Emma caught her breath at the love and hope she saw in his eyes. âAnd perhaps, if you were so inclined, you might share my room?â
Emma couldnât hold back her beaming smile. âIâd love to, Killian.â
Emma took a deep breath as she got the laundry started. When she couldnât find a house or apartment in Asheville to fit her needs or budget, and with her and Killianâs relationship taking off and progressing smoothly, David and Mary Margaretâs offer to continue to live with them was a welcome invitation and made her daydreams of a life with Killian that much more crystal clear. Without the hassle of getting out of a lease or selling a house, a move to Pigeon Forge would be much easier, and now with the invitation to share his bed on this visit, she just couldnât keep her mind away from envisioning a future with him.Â
A happy one.Â
~*~*~
Killian found himself in front of the big picture window in the den of his home, again, as he eagerly waited for his girlfriend and her family to arrive for their Christmas visit. They should be arriving in the next thirty minutes or so and as much as he tried to keep himself occupied in the kitchen or with his family who arrived the day before, he kept making his way to the den to keep an eye on the long drive leading to his front porch, straining his eyes for any glimpse of Davidâs Expedition so he could meet them all as soon as they arrived.
He just couldnât wait for them to get here. The moment heâd met Emma and Henry on the plane, he hoped to someday get to this point in a relationship with Emma Nolan, but heâd really not expected it to happen so quickly. Not that he was complaining. At all. She captured his heart before theyâd left the airplane, but he held no expectation of the same from her. She had a small child to care for, after all. And with the absence of Henryâs father - heâd noticed her bare ring finger moments after they met -Â he did expect a certain level of caution when entering a new relationship.
But all that had proven unfounded as she opened her heart to him over the last few months. Being trusted enough to hold that priceless treasure was the greatest blessing of his life and he had no intention of causing her to regret that decision. He loved her with all that was in him and knew that she loved him too. He hoped that before she returned with her family to her home in Asheville, sheâd be wearing his ring and together, theyâd be planning a wedding.
But at the moment, he should probably join Elsa in the kitchen to prepare lunch for everyone. Surely theyâd be here - or nearly - by the time they had it all ready.
Twenty minutes later, Killian emerged back into the den from the kitchen to see his eagerly awaited guests just emerging from their vehicle. A wide grin bloomed on his face.
âLiam! Elsa! Little Liam,â he called. âTheyâre here!â
Small feet hurried down the stairs followed by the heavier footsteps of Killianâs older brother as Elsa rushed in from the kitchen to join him in the den. He threw open the front door and stepped out into the frigid December air.
âKillian!â Emma cried just before he gathered her in his arms and kissed the living daylights out of her.
âIâm so glad youâre here,â he whispered into the space between them, when he finally ended the kiss. âIâve missed you so much.â
Emma inhaled shakily, very glad he held her so close. Sheâd probably collapse into a puddle at his feet otherwise.Â
âIâve missed you too, Killian.â She gave him another quick peck on the lips before turning back into the SUV to get Henry out of his booster seat.
âKilly, Killy,â Henry cried, squirming away from his mom as best he could while still strapped in and reaching out toward Killian. Since he and Little Liam were so close, heâd picked up the same nickname Little Liam had for his beloved uncle.
âHello there, lad,â Killian greeted him when Emma moved aside with a bemused smile on her face. âWelcome to Pigeon Forge! Iâm so glad you and your mom are here.âÂ
âHey! What about us?â called David from the back of the vehicle where he was unloading the luggage.Â
Killian unstrapped Henry from his booster seat, and he promptly launched himself into his arms forcing a loud oof out of him. âOf course, Iâm happy youâre all here,â he replied, as soon as he caught the breath Henry had knocked out of him with his enthusiastic greeting. He put Henry on the ground and joined David at the back to help. He was welcomed by his friend with a hearty handshake and hug of greeting.
âThank you for having us all, Killian,â David said, picking up his and Mary Margaretâs suitcase and looking up at the house. âWow! Your home is⌠that is awesome!â
The men climbed the steps to the front porch where Liam waited patiently for them. âHere, let me take that,â he said, grabbing Henryâs small suitcase from Killian. âThe boys and ladies are already inside.â
The men all entered the cabin. Killian could hear the boys up in the loft - Little Liam obviously showing his best friend around - as he led David to his and Mary Margaretâs bedroom. With Elsaâs help, heâd decorated the cabin in shades of brown, red, and green, in keeping with the rustic surroundings of the Appalachians. Since it was the first of - what he hoped would be - many visits in the future, he hoped David and Mary Margaret would be comfortable in the room.
âThis is very nice,â David said, looking around.
âIâm glad you like it,â Killian replied. âElsa was a big help with the decorating.â
David grinned. âI can tell. I didnât take you as the decorative pillow type.â
Killian chuckled before pointing out the adjoining bathroom and leading his friend back into the kitchen - after dropping Emmaâs suitcase in his bedroom - where everyone was already fixing their plates. The meal was delicious and the various conversations ebbed and flowed naturally around the table. It was as if everyone had been close friends for years instead of having met just in the last few months.Â
âAfter lunch,â Killian raised his voice a bit, drawing everyoneâs attention, âI thought we could go down to the Christmas Place to let the boys pick out decorations for their Christmas tree.âÂ
He may have had a lot of help with interior decorating when he initially bought the cabin, but heâd needed no such assistance when it came to decorating for Christmas. That was the only downside to usually visiting Liam in Boston for the holiday. With multiple shows a day plus nearly two weeks off for Christmas and New Years, Killian rarely did much decorating. But this year, with all his favorite people converging for the festivities, heâd gone all out.
The eaves and porch outside were trimmed with colored lights, as well as a lit up nativity scene in the yard complete with Bethlehem star and angel. Besides the main tree in the den in front of the picture window, each bedroom and the kitchen had their own Christmas tree with a different theme for each one. The tree in the kitchen was decorated with, what else, kitchen utensils and food ornaments. Woodland creatures adorned the tree in David and Mary Margaretâs room. In Liam and Elsaâs room, Killian chose a theme that reflected their own tree at home - a frozen crystal tree with white lights and all the decorations either white, crystal, or resembling glass. His bedroom tree contained a variety of nutcrackers and other characters from the beloved ballet, reflecting both his and Emmaâs love of the holiday tradition. But he thought the boys would have fun picking out their own holiday theme and ornaments for the small tree in the loft.Â
His suggestion was met with enthusiastic approval, and everyone hurried to finish eating so they could go.
As they entered The Christmas Place on the Pigeon Forge strip, the boy's eyes grew to the size of saucers. Little Liam had been to Pigeon Forge before, but not during the holidays and he didnât remember the one time heâd been inside the huge, gaily decorated shopping venue when he was barely walking. The boys were beside themselves as they ran from room to room looking at all the decorations and ornaments and picking out about a dozen ornaments each for their tree - featuring dinosaurs, cars, trains, and Star Wars and Marvel figures.
âOh, Killian, look!â Emma exclaimed. Killian hurried over from where the men and boys were watching the very elaborate Christmas train set that ran around the entire room adjacent to where she stood.
âWhat did you find, Love?â he asked as he slipped his arm around her waist and gave her an all too brief kiss on the cheek.Â
âItâs a pirate ship!â she cooed, showing him her find. âIt can be my souvenir for the trip, since youâre a pirate captain.â Mary Margaret and Elsa arrived then and oooed and ahhed over Emmaâs prize. âI can have all our names put on the hull.â
âA fine idea, Love,â Killian praised. âYouâll need to hide it from Henry though.â
âOh, youâre right,â she mused. âAt least until after his birthday.â
Theyâd decided early on that they would attempt to keep Killianâs occupation a secret from Henry until they arrived at the show for his birthday dinner. Miraculously, theyâd been successful so far.
Once all the personalizations had been added to the various ornaments and purchases made, they returned to the cabin, the boys taking off to the loft to decorate their tree. The sounds of two very happy little boys drifted down to where the adults were all busy on the ground floor. The men got a fire going, while the ladies got out bowls, utensils, and toppings for the chili that simmered in the crock pot.
âMomma, Daddy, Miss Emma,â Little Liam called down. âCome see our tree!â
âDuty calls,â Liam said, standing from where heâd just sat down on the sofa.
âPrivileges of fatherhood,â Killian quipped, a cheeky grin on his face. Liam made a sour face in return and reached out to box his brotherâs ear, but Killian knew what was coming and ducked out of reach just in the nick of time. âAs Dad, you get called first. David, Mary Margaret, and I will come see it later.â
As soon as the three parents were up the stairs, Killian realized that he and David were alone. Mary Margaret still bustled about the kitchen leaving the men to themselves. He knew he wanted to have a private conversation with David sometime over the holiday, but he wasnât sure he was quite ready for it at the present moment. He scratched behind his ear in nervous indecision.
âWhatâs up, Killian?â David asked, his brows slightly furrowed. âIs everything alright?â
Killian took a deep breath as the thought flew through his mind that David just made the decision for him. âYes, everythingâs fine,â he replied. âUm, I did want to talk to you about something while you were here.â
âWhatâs that?â
Killian glanced at his friend, then at the tree and dancing fire before speaking. âYou know that I love your sister. Dearly.â Another glance at David showed a neutral expression. He swallowed hard before continuing. âIâve loved her since before we got off the plane four months ago. I know you both didnât have it easy growing up and that, plus the whole shit show with Neal, made you very protective of her. I want to assure you of my intentions toward her and request your blessing to ask for Emmaâs hand in marriage.âÂ
Killianâs eyes returned to Davidâs countenance, which held the same neutrality as before. It seemed a lifetime before a warm smile broke over his face.
âOf course,â he replied. âOf course you have my blessing.âÂ
Killian blew out a breath he hadnât been aware he was holding. âThatâs a relief.â
David stood and Killian followed, smiling happily. âYou are one of the best men I know, and I also know that you love her and will honor and treasure her the way she deserves.â David reached his hand out and Killian clasped it before they embraced in a brotherly hug. âDo you plan on asking her while weâre here?â
âYes. At dinner on Christmas Eve. I have a few arrangements to make, now that I know I have your approval.â
âWas there ever really a question?â David asked. âWhy were you so nervous?â
âWell, thereâs a reason Mary Margaret calls you her Prince Charming,â Killian replied. âAnd that doesnât set the bar high at all.â
The men chuckled as Liam, Elsa, and Emma came back down the stairs. âYour turn,â Emma said, her eyes dancing in delight. âYouâre going to love it!â
She was right. David and Killian arrived in the loft with Mary Margaret close on their heels. Hulk was seated on the T-Rex and faced off against Darth Vader while Captain America and Iron Man shared space with other dinosaurs, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Yoda. The various vehicles were scattered all over the other side of the tree where the boys explained they were set up for a grand prix race.Â
Once theyâd adequately expressed their awe and appreciation for the boysâ decorating job, Mary Margaret informed them that dinner was waiting. They all trooped back down and enjoyed the hearty chili that had been simmering all day.
By the time dinner was consumed, the kitchen cleaned up, boys bathed, and popcorn popped, all the excitement of the day was starting to catch up to the little ones. They were both yawning every few minutes even with Star Wars playing on the flatscreen in the den. They hadnât even made it to Mos Eisley before both boys were sound asleep, heads in their motherâs laps.
âI canât say Iâd mind an early bedtime myself,â Emma yawned, leaning back into Killianâs chest as he tightened his arm around her shoulder. âWe have a big day planned tomorrow at Dollywood.â She turned and looked at her boyfriend with a happily contented smile on her face to see much the same expression on his. She wasnât kidding about wanting an early bedtime. She was more than ready to take that next step in their relationship and it looked like Killian heartily agreed.
He removed his arm from around her and she maneuvered Henry into her arms. Saying goodnight to everyone, Emma and Elsa carried the boys up the stairs and got them deposited in their beds without so much as a twitch or a whimper from either of them.
âGoodnight Emma,â Elsa whispered. âSee you in the morning.â
Emma nodded as they descended the stairs to their respective bedrooms. When Emma entered the room, she was momentarily puzzled when she didnât see Killian. Then she registered the shower running in the adjoining bathroom. When she entered, she was again surprised to find Killian standing in the middle of the room instead of in the shower.
âItâs been a very long day for you,â he began, scratching behind his ear. âAnd I thought you might like a hot shower before we went to bed.â He glanced up at her and smiled, thankful that she appeared to appreciate his gesture.
âThatâs so thoughtful, Killian,â she replied softly. âThank you.â She moved toward him and he wrapped her in his arms, kissing her deeply. They were both a bit breathless when they parted long moments later. âWill you join me?â
âAre you sure, Emma?â he asked, searching her gaze for any hint of hesitation. He may have invited her to visit this holiday, and to share his bed, but he didnât want her to feel pressured in any way. He was in this for the long haul and he was more than willing to wait until he knew she was completely comfortable with and ready for that next step.
âI am, Killian. I love you and I want to be with you.â
It was all the assurance he needed. He gathered her in his arms once again and kissed her with everything he had in him - all the love in his heart and mind as well as his hopes and dreams of a future with Emma Nolan. They undressed each other slowly as they kissed, reluctant to part even for that. When they were finally bare before one another, Killian looked into her eyes.
âI love you, too, Emma,â he vowed, before leading her into the large shower and proceeding to love her long into the night.

The smell of gingerbread permeated the air as their group entered the gates of Dollywood the following morning. Unfortunately, Emma knew it was too early in the day to indulge in the confectionary delights that were making her mouth water, but that didnât stop her sweet tooth from making its presence quite obvious.
âMmmmm.â Emma closed her eyes and inhaled deeply, nearly overwhelmed with the delicious aroma, before she opened them again when she heard the chuckle come from the man at her side.
âExactly what I expected from you,â Killian said. âI knew that sweet tooth of yours wouldnât be able to resist.â
âCan we go in? Just to look around?â she asked.
âOf course.â
The rest of their group had already made it inside, led by Henry and Little Liam, of course. If the smell of the fresh baked gingerbread was strong outside, it was nothing compared to the competing aromas of gingerbread, caramel, cinnamon, and peppermint that filled the shop.
They came to a stop at a glass window where they could see into the kitchen. The bakers inside were busy rolling out dough, cutting out shapes, and stirring huge pots of different fillings for all the treats. After watching them at work for several minutes, the boys were ready to move on.Â
They continued on their way, strolling down the street lined with decorated Christmas trees heading toward the Country Fair, the part of Dollywood that was especially for families with small children. There theyâd find rides just right for the pint-sized crew, as well as Santa! Trees of every color lined the walkways with white and twinkling colored lights that shone even during the day.
The boys were beside themselves as they waited in line to see the jolly old elf, and when they were finally perched on his lap, the grins on both of their faces were brighter than the sun above. Emma would have been content to get a picture of just Henry and Little Liam on Santaâs lap, but Killian asked if they could all squeeze in behind Santa for a commemorative photo of the day. Santa and his elves were in agreement, so the six adults gathered around the back of Santaâs sled.
âSay peppermint,â the photographer elf prompted.
âPeppermint,â they all replied as the camera clicked. As soon as the elf invited them all to see the shot she took, the boys scrambled down.
âUnca Killy,â Little Liam exclaimed. âYou look funny.â Killian hadnât noticed the look on his face until his nephew said something, but the chuckles from the other adults had him scratching behind his ear in embarrassment. He was the only one not looking at the camera, his focus entirely on his beautiful girlfriend, a thoroughly besotted look on his countenance.Â
He quickly forgot his embarrassment when Emma turned to him and threw her arms around his shoulders drawing him into a sweet kiss of appreciation and love.
âI donât think he looks funny at all,â she exclaimed when they parted. Everyone laughed as the ladies took care of ordering prints for everyone.Â
Once they left Santa, they continued toward Celebration Hall and their Christmas Buffet. There was something that pleased everyone - even two very picky little boys - featuring everything from roast turkey and glazed ham to mashed potatoes and mac and cheese.
The rest of the day was completely delightful, indulging in all the sweet treats Emma had been denied earlier, enjoying the myriad of rides the park had to offer, and taking in more shows than she ever had in her life. Since Killian was also an actor, he knew several of the performers in the shows and brought the whole crew up to meet them and get a backstage peek.
As they were negotiating the crowds heading toward the exits after the spectacular fireworks display to end their day, Killian turned to Emma.
âDid you have a good time today?â he asked.
A soft smile graced her face as she leaned her head on his shoulder. âI did. I really did,â she assured him. âChristmas in the Smokies was my favorite show.â
He grinned with delight. âI was just about to ask.â
âAnd visiting Santa,â she continued. âAnd the cinnamon bread. And the kettle corn. Mmmmmmmm. Soooo good.â
Just ahead of them, Henry stumbled with fatigue and Killian didnât miss a beat, swinging the very tired little boy up into his arms. Emma lifted her head to give Henry a place to lay his as she brushed the hair out of his eyes that were nearly shut.
âHeâs so tired,â she whispered.
âYes,â Killian agreed. âHeâs been remarkably well behaved, too. I know how cranky little ones can get when theyâre worn out like this.â He smirked and cut his eyes over toward his nephew being carried by his father in much the same way he carried Henry. Emma giggled.
âI think just the joy of the holiday and being here with all his favorite people made a big difference in that regard.â Her heart filled with joy when she saw the blush spread across his cheeks, knowing heâd taken her meaning that he was included among that exclusive group.
âIâm glad,â he whispered.

The next day was Henryâs birthday, and the men had a full agenda, while the ladies got pampered at a local day spa. Emma was so looking forward to the mani/pedi, massage, facial, and gourmet lunch sheâd enjoy with Mary Margaret and Elsa. The men were looking forward to spending time on The Island, an entertainment venue on the strip with carnival rides, shops, and a musical jumping fountain, sure to keep the boys occupied while they waited on the ladies. After lunch and a brief rest for the boys, Killian would escort everyone to the eveningâs entertainment - Pirates Voyage Dinner and Show.
Unbelievably, theyâd been able to keep Killianâs occupation from Henry all this time, so while he knew they were going to a special dinner for his birthday, he had no idea just what that dinner was. It wasnât until they pulled into the parking lot that Henry realized what he had to look forward to.
âPi-wates!â he shouted, loud enough to rattle the windows in Killianâs SUV. They laughed at his obvious delight before Emma admonished him to use his inside voice because they all wanted to be able to hear the show.Â
Once they were parked, the adults turned around to unveil the rest of the surprise to the birthday boy.
âHenry,â Killian began, âI have very much been looking forward to this visit with you and your mom, and this show is a big reason why. You remember how upset you were when you met the pilot of the airplane when we were all traveling to Asheville?â Henry nodded. âWell, I understood why you were so upset and I invited you and your mom to come to Pigeon Forge for your birthday because I am one of the pirate captains in this show.â
Killian grinned and Emma chuckled as Henryâs eyes got as big as saucers. âYouâre a pi-wate captain?!â he squealed in excitement.
âWell, Iâm not a real pirate captain,â he explained, âbut I play one in the show. And as part of your birthday surprise, youâll get made up like a pirate, and Iâm going to bring you down to my ship to be part of the show for a time.â
If Henry hadnât been strapped into his booster seat, he would be approaching liftoff the way he was bouncing up and down with excitement. They got out of the car and grabbed Henry from the backseat before joining the rest of their group to enter the venue. The boys chattered back and forth about getting to dress up as pirates as they approached and then broke into a play sword fight complete with swinging arms and finger pistols.
The adults ushered them in and they were immediately swept away into the setting surrounding them. Killian introduced everyone to Ruby and Tink, the makeup artists that would be in charge of transforming the boys and himself into pirates ready for a swashbuckling adventure on the high seas.
After introductions were made, Ruby picked up Henry and propped him on her hip as she led them down the hall to where her makeup chair awaited. She tickled his belly and had him in stitches before she plopped him down in the chair. Little Liam was in Tinkâs chair beside him and their eyes were huge as the ladies pulled out the tools of their trade.Â
They got to choose bandanas to put on their heads and then the ladies got to work. In no time at all, both boys were transformed into fearsome pirates, complete with pirate hats and toy swords. Then they got to watch as Killian and his friend Charles, who played Captain Hookâs rival Blackbeard, got the same treatment. By the time Ruby and Tink were done with the men, Charles was barely recognizable from the man whoâd sat down in Tinkâs chair. With his long hair and beard, Killian had to pick Henry up and reintroduce the lad to his friend and coworker. Killian himself was still perfectly recognizable with just a tousle of his hair, eyeliner, and blush to make him stand out under the harsh lights of the stage. Emmaâs heart rate picked up double time at how sexy her man looked. His blue eyes popped and the way he was looking at her made her breath hitch. He wrapped his arm around her waist and kissed her hard before releasing her so he could go get into his costume and their party could make their way to their seats for the show.
Once they were seated, a pirate wench named Wendy came to get their drink orders as Little Liam informed her that Captain Hook was his uncle and that they were celebrating Henryâs birthday. She was suitably impressed and promised some special treats during the show for everyone.Â
They watched the show as they ate their dinner. They were, of course, on the side of Captain Hook and they thoroughly enjoyed the singing, dancing, and acrobatics on full display by Captain Hook, Blackbeard, and their respective pirate crews. The dinner was fantastic - creamy vegetable soup, Buccaneer Biscuit, Cracklinâ fried chicken, swashbucklinâ sugar cured ham, Cob-O Butter Corn, Mateyâs Mac ânâ Cheese, and Apple OâMe Eye Pie. The special surprises promised by Wendy were specialty drinks in pirate themed mugs for everyone. The boys loved their fruity slushies while the others indulged in more adult beverages, non-alcoholic, of course, for the drivers. At the end of the meal, while everyone else enjoyed their pie, Henry was presented with an ice cream sundae nearly the size of his head in a souvenir pirate ship with sparkling candles for him to blow out. Everyone around them cheered when he successfully blew them out on the first try.
Once he was done eating his sundae, Emma was approached by one of the hosts. He explained that heâd been sent by Killian to fetch Henry for the interactive part of the show. Emma and Henry followed him down to the stage, where Henry was handed off to one of the pirates in Captain Hookâs crew who explained what heâd be doing on the stage. It was only a few moments later that Henry and a little girl whoâd also been chosen were led out onto the stage to take part in the live animal demonstrations. The pirate wench with Henry named Milah carried a large blue parrot on her outstretched arm while the other one with the little girl carried a red parrot. Once they were in position, Henry was allowed to feed the creature - simply holding out his little hand which held the parrotâs treat and letting her pick it right up. Then he was given directions for how to send her on a journey around the entire arena before landing on the outstretched arm of the other wench, while the red parrot completed the same journey before landing on Milahâs arm.Â
Henry was so excited when Milah brought the red parrot close to his face and the bird âkissedâ his cheek. Then it was time for Henry and the little girl to be presented to their respective pirate captains to receive permission to join the crews. Milah approached Captain Hook with Henry by her side.
âCaptain,â she cried, âyoung Master Henry has proven himself quite adept at handling Mrs. Davis and requests permission to join the crew of the fearsome Captain Hook!â
âI see,â the captain replied, âand are you prepared to swear allegiance to the crimson flag and to me as your captain?â he asked. âFor let me tell you how it works on my ship. I give the orders, you follow them!â
From where Emma still stood near the entrance to the stage area, she could clearly see the delight in her boyfriendâs eyes as he spoke to Henry.
âYes, Sir,â Henry shouted, saluting his new Captain.
âThen welcome to the pirate crew of Captain Hook,â Killian replied. On the other side of the stage area, the little girl was being welcomed into the crew of Captain Blackbeard. Once Henry had been welcomed by the rest of the crew, he was taken near the edge of the stage to practice his sword fighting with Milah. It was a part of the show where the entire crew of both ships showcased their skill with a sword in preparation for the show finale of an epic battle between the two crews. Emma watched as Milah gave Henry instruction on how to take an enemy by surprise before bringing him back to her so they could comfortably watch the confrontation between the rival pirate crews.Â
The fight was spectacular. Henry, Emma, and their families loudly cheered for Captain Hook and his crew. Captain Hook and Captain Blackbeard faced each other at the top of the mast while their crews battled below. Suddenly, Captain Hook lunged toward his enemy, and Captain Blackbeard stepped back into open air. He fell from the mast into the water below where a sudden bubbling told the audience that the mermaids from earlier in the show were dispatching Captain Hookâs adversary. As soon as Blackbeard fell into the water, his crew threw down their weapons, to the cheers of Captain Hookâs crew and the audience.
With the show over, Emma, Henry, and the rest of the party made their way to where Killian had said he would meet them after the show. They waited for their turn, watching as he took pictures with audience members. Once they were at the front of the line, Captain Hook grinned widely when he saw them.Â
âMaster Henry!â he called.
âYes, Sir!âÂ
The captain motioned them all over for a souvenir picture and then turned to Henry. âI understand, young sir, that today is your birthday.â
A banana could have fit in Henryâs mouth sideways at the reminder. âYes, Sir!â he replied excitedly.
âWhen we are done with this picture, weâll have a picture with just you and me,â Captain Hook continued.
âYes, yes, yes!â Henry cried before turning toward the photographer.
âEveryone smile and say Arrrrrrrgh,â she called.
âArrrrrrrrrgh!â they all cried before the flash went off.Â
Once all the pictures were taken - including a picture with Henry, Little Liam, and Captain Hook - they were directed to the counter to pick which portrait package they wanted to take home. Since it was Henryâs birthday, there was an option of a special birthday background with the whole family included.
By the time they were done with their photo and gift shop purchases, Killian was done with his photo ops and out of costume. The boys had chosen several piratey accouterments as well as t-shirts to commemorate the show, while Liam and David both chose model pirate ships. The ladies all bought Captain Hook t-shirts, which Killian was very pleased to see and sign.
After all the excitement of the day, Henry was sound asleep before they arrived back at the cabin and Little Liamâs eyes were drooping as well. As Liam and Elsa took charge of their son, Killian unbuckled Henryâs seatbelt and brought him to his chest, his little head resting on his shoulder. Once he lay in his bed, Emma started undressing him.
âCan you grab his pajamas out of the top drawer?â she whispered to Killian.
âOf course,â he whispered back. As he turned back to them, pjs in hand, Killian felt his heart swell to near bursting. Heâd just about given up on finding love and settling down with a family of his own, and here he was helping his girlfriend get her son in bed. He loved them more than life.Â
He knew in his heart that heâd never find another woman like Emma Nolan and he wanted her in his life forever. Tomorrow was Christmas Eve and he had reservations at The Melting Pot in Gatlinburg for the date heâd mentioned on the plane the day he met her. At the time, he didnât have any thought beyond a first date with a really beautiful and lovely woman. But now, he wanted it to be the first date of a lifetime with the woman he loved. The woman he knew loved him right back.Â
He arrived back at the bed and helped Emma get the pjs on the little boy, then tucked him into bed, still deep in the land of nod.
âYouâre good at that,â Emma whispered as they left the room.
âI had a good teacher,â he replied quietly.
They left the door open to the room since Liam and Elsa would soon be bringing Little Liam in and made their way to their room for the night.
