Four Seasons, Three Days . . . . Snow, wind, rain, hail, thunder, lightening...: just what you wouldn’t expect in Portugal, but when the sun eventually came out it was that little bit too late to shine light and warmth on to this inaugural Pretorian 3 stage MTB bike race. . This third and final stage was slightly adapted from 55km as snow fall was still affecting the course with the thaw making streams into rivers.. and with temperatures around 6 degrees it was always going to be a cold, wet and muddy stage. There wasn’t much time diff in the GC so it was pretty much all to play for. Unfortunately, two thirds through the stage an apparent sabotage of the course guidance arrows were removed which lead to most of the riders getting lost, only to cause confusion in the second feed zone. At this point, all but a few riders - including the ride leaders - were told by the officials that the stage would then be decided on timings to the first feed zone. Upon investigation the UCI officials cancelled the whole stage and all the results from day 3. The overall winners being crowned based on the timings of the two time-trials on day one and day two. A frustrating race for many, but non more so for the organization who had prepared, what looked like, a great race in stunning surroundings. Unfortunately, we can’t change the weather.
